England Women 6-0 Portugal Women: Arsenal's Beth Mead and Chloe Kelly score in Wembley rout
Arsenal's Lisbon Lionesses Beth Mead and Chloe Kelly score for England during 6-0 Wembley romp vs Portugal
A first half hattrick by Chelsea's 21-year-old striker Aggie Beevor-Jones helped Sarina Wiegman's England to a comfortable 6-0 victory over a limited Portuguese side at Wembley on Friday evening.
Arsenal's Lisbon Lionesses Beth Mead and Chloe Kelly also chipped in, along with Lucy Bronze to post a welcome win ahead of their Euro Nations League trip to reigning World Cup winners Spain next week.
However, with the 2025 European Championships in Switzerland on the horizon this summer, the match was also a send-off for the side, ahead of their attempt to retain their European title, won so thrillingly back in 2022.
Despite Mary Earps jumping ship by quitting in the build up to this match, Hannah Hampton - who Wiegman preferred to the former, prompting Earps' unexpected retirement from international football - the Chelsea keeper was barely tested, as home side romped to victory in front of an impressive attendance of 48,531 at the national stadium.
As the clock ticked down there was even time for Portugal's beleaguered keeper Ines Pereira to make an excellent diving save at her near post to keep out Beevor-Jones impudent effort with the outside of her right boot, to restore a modicum of pride.
