So, it's England vs Spain - a repeat of the 2023 final, in the quarter-finals on Saturday. While Germany - who switched their entire side from their last game - progress with three wins on the bounce to play Italy in the last eight on Sunday
England lose, but make it to the quarter-finals of the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia where they will play Spain U21s
And that's full time with Germany U21s beating England U21s 2-1
Four minutes added time announced - England need two goals to advance as Group B winners
89 - Jay Stansfield's header flies over
83 - It's all England now - Charlie Cresswell (FC Toulouse) has his header parried by keeper Tjark Ernst
The assist coming from Omari Hutchinson
GOAL! Germany U21 2-1 England - Alex Scott (AFC Bournemouth) pulls a goal back for Carsley's side with 14 minutes remaining
76 - GOAL!!!!
75 - Liverpool centre-half Jarell Quansah powers forward to win a corner that Germany's Jamil Siebert blocks off the prowling Jay Stansfield
Elliot Anderson is replaced by Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton with West Brom winger Tom Fellows switching with Ethan Nwaneri - see our player ratings after the game for more on young Ethan
Good news for England from elsewhere as Vaclav Sejk makes it 2-0 to Czech Republic - scoreline that would eliminate Slovenia and send England through, regardless of what happens in this match
57 - Jay Stansfield fires wide
If things stay the same England will play against Spain in the quarter-finals
In other news Daniel Fila has scored for the Czech Republic vs Slovenia, who need a huge win to eliminate England and qualify
Brooke Norton-Cuffy goes to right-back while James McAtee is up top with Jay Stansfield
James McAtee (Manchester City) Birmingham striker Jay Stansfield and Genoa right-back and former Arsenal academy star Brooke Norton-Cuffy have all come on as Lee Carsley makes a triple change. Samuel Iling-Junior, Harvey Elliott and Jonathan Rowe are the trio to depart at half time
The floodlights are back working - so there has been light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. (Sorry...)
And we're off for the second half
HT: Germany U21 2-0 England U21. The lights go out for Casely's England after an underwhelming opening 45 minutes
So, the referee has decided to blow early (50 seconds early) while they work out what to do.
Who remembers when Arsenal's match at Selhurst Park against Wimbledon saw the lights go out back in 1997. Good times...or not... as the game was abandoned and everyone had to go home in the dark...
Looks like at least one floodlight has lost power just before half time. The referee haas stopped the game while someone presumably looks for a 50p to put in the meter. Or 50 cents as Slovakia use the Euro...
Nwaneri effortlessly cuts inside to drill a left-footed shot at the German goal. Such a class act
Kudos to the lively Knauff for the ball into the box for Nelson Weiper's header to make it 2-0
A ball into the box sees No19 Nelson Weiper get between the two England centre-backs as the Mainz attacker nods past Brighton keeper James Beadle to double the Germans lead
32 - GOAL - Germany U21 2-0 England U21
30 - Half an hour in and it's still 0-0 - plenty of perspiration if not inspiration
FYI: You may recall Germany's goalscorer Ansgar Knauff netting for Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final against West Ham back in April 2022. Eintracht won 2-1 (3-1 on agg), with Knauff playing in the final as the Germans beat Rangers on penalties to win the trophy
20 - Jonathan Rowe (Marseille) fires wide after being played in by Nwaneri
Nwaneri in amongst it all - it shouldn't be amazing to Gooners everywhere, but it is still hard to believe the lad is still only 18
9 - Nwaneri crosses into the box but the ball is cleared for a corner that comes to nothing
Kudos for the excellent ball in by Germany's Berlin-born U21 left back Lukas Ullrich who plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach
Judging by his cool finish I'd say keep an eye on Ansgar Knauff next term, the 23-year-old right winger who plays for Eintracht Frankfurt
I have to say Ansgar Knauff took his goal superbly well, with a deft touch to control Lukas Ullrich's assist before clinically executing his effort past Brighton keeper James Beadle within three minutes
3 - GOAL England U21 0-1 Germany U21 - A superb finish from No7 Ansgar Knauff
ICYMI: With Germany already qualified boss Antonio Di Salvo has switched his entire starting line-up from their win over the Czech Republic.
Some stats for you: Previous European U21 Championship meetings Matches 12 England wins 5 Germany wins 2 Draws 5 England goals 19 Germany goals 16
And we're off!
FYI: Lee Carsley's Young Lions were in superb form in 2023 as they won all six of their matches in Georgia and Romania, without conceding a goal, to lift the trophy. Here's hoping for more of the same this month
That's the national anthems done, kick off is moments away
Carsley's Young Lions will be certain of quarter-final place with a draw tonight. While Germany are already into last eight after back-to-back wins
The top two teams from both groups will progress to the quarter-finals. Don't forget if you want to watch the game that kicks off at 8pm our time, it's being shown live in the UK on Channel Four, with coverage on right now
England were frustrated by Slovenia in their second group stage game as Carsley's side failed to find the back of the net in at the Štadión pod Zoborom - the same venue they play at tonight
Germany won their opener 3-0 against Slovenia on Thursday in Group A, leaving England in second in the group on goal difference.
Harvey Elliott and Jon Rowe staked the Young Lions to a 2-0 lead before Czechia's Daniel Fila cut the lead in half shortly after the break in host nation Slovakia. Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell restored the two-goal advantage for England in the 76th minute to secure all three points in the Group B opener for Lee Carsley's side.
England U21s got off to a perfect start in their opening match with a 3-1 win over Czechia on Thursday
Head coach Lee Carsley picked a 23-man group for the competition as the Young Lions aim to defend the title which they won two years ago in Georgia
Former Arsenal academy attacker Omari Hutchison also starts. As does Islington-born Sam Iling Jnr, an alumnus of St Aloysius' College, Highgate.
Arsenal supporters will be keen to chart the continued progress of our Young Gun Ethan Nwaneri who U21 boss Lee Carsley has picked in his starting XI to face the Germans tonight
