Let's not re-write history DB10, many were deflated when he signed Arteta, Fellaini had a strong season that year, was linked with us, United & Chelsea, Arteta was very much the cheap option in that deflating trolley dash.
Let's not pretend otherwise to solidify a point.

Re: Transfers / players in / players out merged thread
Its going to be a 60 game season this year, Bellerin needed cover and it has to be better than spending 17m on the Porto reserve RB or relying on a young midfielder filling in there.

Re: Transfers / players in / players out merged thread
Depends how he sets the 4 up, if he puts him at the tip of the diamond he's pretty much doing what the fan boys want him to and that's be a no 10 without much need to defend much. If he's in a midfield 3 he's a complete waste of a spot. Biggest problem under Wenger is that he played with 3 strikers ...

Re: Transfers / players in / players out merged thread
Would then play
Ozil
Lacazette Aubameyang
Team would have much better balance about it than forcing Iwobi/Welbeck in as a crap wide man.

Re: Transfers / players in / players out merged thread
Fellaini - we would be a fucking laughing stock. Wouldn't mind him myself, someone to sit infront of the defence and defend them, break up play, outmuscle opposition mids and just pass it to someone with more ability. This team has missed someone doing that for years. Could easily see Felliani Rams...

Re: Transfers / players in / players out merged thread
He does look quite good, so did Chamakh tbf but there seems to be a genuine buzz about it.
This is what Sven is here for, if it comes off than he's making a good start.

Re: First wave of PL stalwarts go into management
I think Lampard will take to management, he is a winner, was smart on the pitch and speaks well of it, it dont mean anything in management but suspect he'll be a bigger success than Gerrard. This is the sort of path Arteta had to take not get above himself and think that he could walk into the Arsen...

What a kick to the ego it'll be for Wenger if Madrid blank him (like you would expect them to)
How would he spin that one?

Re: Transfers / players in / players out merged thread
Agree with this, as a team, we've been crying out for someone to defend the defence and it's never been fixed, a lot of these defenders (& even the keeper) will look better if they aren't getting exposed every week like they do at this club.

Re: Transfers / players in / players out merged thread
The fact that transfer fees get spread over the length of contract makes it more baffling as to why Wenger ignored key areas for so long. Was there really a need to play Almunia for so long or buy Arteta as an attacking mid & try to make him a defensive one when they could have easily gone out a...

Re: Transfers / players in / players out merged thread
I'd rather have Alexander Arnold, Van Djik & Robertson over any of the defenders at this club, not sure why their defence gets so much stick, kept a lot of clean sheets last year, every team brainfarts at the back, it's not exclusive a problem to them.

Re: 2018-19 season! hopes and expectations
Don't think top 4 is that big an ask, Liverpool and Spurs had a clear run at it this year because Arsenal and Chelsea were so bad, pretty sure Liverpool have 1 less point than last season and Spurs didn't look anywhere near as good as they were when they had Walker and Rose as fullbacks the season b...
