Forty Million is NOT enough NOW not NEARLY enough

Post by USMartin »

Forget who is to blame for how we got here. Forget it.

Forget who is or may be manager next year. Forget it.

It doesn't matter because the reality is looking at this team there is no way realistically any manager can wrok witha 40 million pounds transfer budget or even after sales a 60 million pound transfer budget and improve this team sufficently to win the Premiership or Champions League.

But what is more worring right now is even if we don't lose any top player including Cesc this summer is with Man City Chelsea and Man U all spending big as well as maybe Liverpool and s888s and we can't afford the 5-6 players we really need to make this team better than at-best a top four side can we even remain a top four side?

And what happens if we can't?

How do we rebuild a side not simply to reclaim a top-four place but a top-two place then? Because even we tell ourselves we're spoooo close to getting over the hump and still just that top player or two away, how can we say that when if we finish fifth we will risk losing several if not most of our very best players - certainly the likes of Fabregas and Nasri, probably Arshavin, and maybe even Vermaelen and VanPersie, and certainly there will be clubs sniffing around Wilshere and Walcott. If we just lose half of them we will need to replace them with top-quality replacements especially depending on which ones we lose.

That alone would normally cost about 50 million and we still have to buy thoise two players who were supposed to make us good enough to win the League remember. And this won't be a normal situation no matter who the manager is. Both the players we want to sign and the clubs we will have to buy them from will know we desperate and that will increase the prices even higher, meaninh that we will be looking at spending 50-75 million just to get back to the top four - maybe.

Of course if we were unwilling to do that and to re-think our failed wage policy then we will be left with a far weaker team playing for far less and likely declines in revenues from ticklet sales marketing and prize money.

No if we are going to break that bank we should break it now and use some of those cash reserves now while still have the foundation if not the spine of a very good team that wa top top spine could be if not a gfreat team than a very good team that wins trophies.

If we try to get by on the cheap much longer the whole foundation will collapse and take years or more likely decades to rebuild and we can't afford that on or off the ptich right now. The choice could be between slipping to mid-table or lower or risking being unable to pay off the stadium if we don't correct this while it can be much more easily nd even less expensively corrected.

Basically if we spend 80 million now(transfers and wages) we can end up with a team that can win the Premiership or Champions League next year. If we just spend 40 million - or less - it will cost us at least 80-100 million just to build back to a top-four team soon with no prospect of winning anything but a domestic cup..
