what people need to start realising is that the club isnt even too bothered about finishing in the top 4 anymore.supergeorgegraham wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 10:43 amIt's hard to get excited about the new season. We need some more signings to even finish top 4. At 67 years old why is he still worried about spending large amounts of money unless he is scared his signings will fail and cost the club a fortune in wages which is why we can't get rid of so many players who have already failed.
whereas before Wenger always made a big point about saying we will try and compete for the title (never happened) nowadays he makes the big point about trying to compete for the top 4 (never going to happen with him in charge now).
Kroenke's viewpoint is this - the season ticket holders are still renewing and happy to pay ridiculous prices regardless of whether we finish in the top 4 and so why bother ? It is all about managing reduced expectations and probably the main reason why Wenger was given another 2 year contract - he is the master at managing reduced expectations
Re: The Fake News Summer Transfer Thread
Not sure that is true. It's never been worth our while (from the business side) investing the additional funds to win the league because the difference in revenue between first and fourth isn't that big. But there is a significant revenue gap between being and not being in the CL, even if the impact isn't as significant as it was a few years back given the Premier Leagues TV deals these days. More than a year or two out of the top four will begin to hurt the bottom line and therefore the share price, which is what Stan cares about.Gunner Rob wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 11:19 amwhat people need to start realising is that the club isnt even too bothered about finishing in the top 4 anymore.supergeorgegraham wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 10:43 amIt's hard to get excited about the new season. get ready for the protests 4th game in......
Does anyone think there will be any protests different to what happened last year? Not knocking peoples efforts in any way shape or form but fact is the most that turned up was 1000 people. I cannot see anything changing this year even when it does go tits up.
Its always been my belief that the only way to get Wenger to walk is for full on protest inside the bowl every week. His ego couldn't handle it.
That will never happen with our fanbase.

Haha yeah, the thing is though we've won 3 out the last 4 FA cups, an incredible record!, however there is no way in hell we can keep that up, we've been flukey as f*ck with some of the draws we've had during this run, playing a lot of non-league teams or weak teams at home, there are some exceptions of course but overall we've been very lucky.postmanPat91 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 12:17 pmWe also beat 'division rivals' Chelsea in the 'Superbowl' final
Sad to say this but if the FA cup keeps the fans off Wenger and Kroenke's back then I hope we don't win it again for a few years, 6th place and no cups next season.
I have this 'horrible' feeling that we'll finish 5th/6th but win the EL thereby getting back in the CL and then AKB's, Wenger and Kroenke will all claim 'success', not complaining as winning the EL is nice but then we'll just be back to getting thrashed by the big teams again in the CL and the cycle continues...
Re: The Fake News Summer Transfer Thread
Rumour has it he was signed because of that StatDNA software that the club were crowing about.
In other news Wellington Silva has failed his medical so another flop we're stuck with, it's Carry on at the Emirates this summer.

Agreed - as much as I enjoyed them, the FA Cups wins of 2014 and 2017 have set us back years in terms of title & Champions League ( ) challengessk-gtfo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 1:23 pmHaha yeah, the thing is though we've won 3 out the last 4 FA cups, an incredible record!, however there is no way in hell we can keep that up, we've been flukey as f*ck with some of the draws we've had during this run, playing a lot of non-league teams or weak teams at home, there are some exceptions of course but overall we've been very lucky.postmanPat91 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 12:17 pmWe also beat 'division rivals' Chelsea in the 'Superbowl' final

Even if he goes for it, Il Duce doesn't have a hope in hell of winning the EL. There are always some decent sides in the latter stages and Mr Zero Tactic's style of "just go out and play", won't cut it in any European competition.

Re: The Fake News Summer Transfer Thread
Not really, he can win the FA cup or League cup (if he took it seriously), I think one of the main reasons, apart from the lucky draws, is that you can get away with zero tactics against rubbish teams, then you just need to be lucky in one game, e.g. Man City and pull off a very good performance in another e.g. Chelsea (or just get lucky again).Midz wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 7:39 pmOr the EPL or the FA Cup or the League CupRetro Gunner wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 3:18 pmThere are always some decent sides in the latter stages and Mr Zero Tactic's style of "just go out and play", won't cut it in any European competition.
To win the EPL or CL, possibly the EL I'm not sure, you need to beat a series of good or very good teams which is well beyond our great leader, Chelsea were incredibly lucky in their CL winning season, however with Wenger in charge even with the luck I think he would still have fallen well short.
Call me cynical ( ) but I expect we'll soon start taking the League cup more seriously so we can win "a trophy" that will keep the AKB's happy, as we can't keep winning 3/4 FA cup's.
If missing out on the domestic cups is enough to p*ss off the fan base (clearly we won't win the PL/CL) then so be it, Spurs always used to be a "cup team" and that was their excuse for being generally rubbish apart from in cup football, pathetic that we now seem to accept their old standards, their new standards may well now be higher than ours ffs.
Re: The Fake News Summer Transfer Thread
Didn't the events of May teach you anything? They don't give a f##k where we finish or how we do. They even came out and said something along the lines of after scouring Europe, Wenger is the best person to win the league and champions league...sk-gtfo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2017 9:04 pm

He is here until he dies and the sheeple at the Emirates don't really mind that.
