Highbury

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Sheer Quality Bas!....

The gates to the North Bank were absolutely beautiful, and with the exception of a few licks of paint etc, I think they were there back in the late 60's....

I've got pics of how it is now too and mid build.

Nice to look at the old place again but sad too.

I have often wondered whether the cup exploits in the latter George Graham years followed by the wonderful football and trophies we enjoyed from 97-06 masked the reality of how much Highbury changed in character after it became an all-seater stadium. While it was better than the Emirates (not difficult), I felt it had lost too much of what had made it such a special place after redevelopment. I realise it's part of a wider debate about the gentrification of top-flight football....but for me it was pre-90s Highbury I really loved.

Last season at Highbury was a bad sign of things to come after the fraud dismantled the unbeaten team overnight and we ended up with the 1-9-Henry formation.

Top work Bas. 8)

I miss Highbury so much. :( When I think of the years and years of good times I had in that stadium (and the boozers around it!) it brings a tear to my eye.

I just cannot relate to The Conglomerates Lego Bowl at all.

Greed again reared its head!
How much did the club get out of selling those apartments, and did all the money go into the new stadium build?
Memory is a bit fuzzy, but if memory serves me right, we all got bukkaked!....

I don,t want to sound pedantic but Highbury was the area the ground was called the Arsenal Stadium so with all this shitty commercial bollox why couldnt it be called the emirates Arsenal Stadium ? :banghead:
