Here's a stat for you courtesy of BT Sport:-

"Arsenal, with over a century of victories are the most successful team to have never won the Champions League"

Don't have to say anymore :banghead: :cussing:

That reads like something Wenger himself would say!

"Look, we have won over a hundred games in Champions League. We have been in it for 20 years. Look, tell me another team with this huh? We have just been a leetle bit not winning it."

:fryingpan: :duh:

And Boro primary arselicker would say it's not just about winning.

Yes it jolly well is (or should be)

Yesterday was Tight Trousers Thursday. It could only mean the Europa League! :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

Image

Panathinaikos beat Gabala to almost ruin the Azerbaijan Dream. Thankfully they have a team in the Be All and End All play-off, which could be drawn with us.

The Kazakhstan Dream is also still barely alive. If Celtic beat Astana in the Be All and End All play-off, they will drop into the Europa group stage, where I hope they will be drawn with us on August 25th.

Everton eventually beat Ružomberok of Slovakia to progress to the play-off. Aberdeen were beaten by Cypriot side Apollon Limassol. PSV were beaten by Croatian side Osijek! Bordeaux were also knocked out by Videoton.

Thankfully, Zenit and Krasnodar beat their opposition, as well as Ukrainian side FC Oleksandriya. Olimpik Donetsk were beaten by POAK and Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Panionios. Milan and Marseille advanced as expected.

So now to the play-off, with even more Be All and End All cast-offs:

Everton will play Hadjuk Split. That will be a good game. Zenit and Krasnodar have tough opposition, so I hope TOF's endless luck will not contrive to give us no games in the former USSR. Knowing his luck, we will only get games west of the old Iron Curtain

The Old Fraud has never won a European trophy in '40' years in football 8)

Cup Winner's Cup - Beaten finalists in 1992

CWC final 1992

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cL1IFqbGdU

Another tippy tappy defensive masterclass by TOF! As early as 3.12 in the match you can see the specialist in failure ignoring the obvious problems in his defence, playing the ball across the back & other weaknesses are already exposed. Bremen's 2nd goal is a shambles & very similar to many Arsenal concede over the last decade.

All hail Wonga the brilliant manager who can't win a European final, in his 3 finals the only player who has ever even scored a goal is Sol Campbell. :barscarf:

Hey winning isn't everything you know. Being the best at losing is good too.

In that one quote you have summed up what is wrong with modern Arsenal, they do not care about results it is all about how much money they can earn. I said on another thread we need a clear out top to bottom

Real sociadad
Nice
Atalanta
Sounds like the most interesting group we could get
Highest ranked from each pot could be
Bruges, apoel Nicosia, hoffenhiem
Would normally hope for lowest rank in a cup competition and let the others knock em out
But I think we need a few decent ties on this occasion
Some nice trips for our chaps( and ladies)who still travel to European games

Add 2000 against galatasary, played absolute shite and deserved to lose. Davor Suker star player, couldn't even score a penalty.

They are indeed
If they get beat they go in the Europa league and chances are if results go as expected they would be the top ranked side in pot 4 but in terms of squad Atalanta would appear to have the better squad
It's all conjecture until those last qualifiers are played
Too much time on my hands today :D

At the risk of seeming to extract the urine, after the Stoke debacle, I will say that this is the one aspect of the season, I am looking forward to.

Our participation in the CL is frankly a fig leaf of a joke.

But this - the EL - conjures up memories of Highbury 1970 and Anderlect. As any - old git - will tell you an unforgettable Arsenal night. If Wenger takes this seriously it offers :-

1/ A trophy :winner: :winner: :winner: :goalie:

2/ A route back to the CL and the prospects of being utterly humiliated in the first ko round.

We would love the former. Wenger and a Kronke are hooked in the latter.

Why not ?

I'm looking forward to it as well. Been in the Champions League is all well and good but it only really gets interesting once we've been knocked out.

Hope we take it seriously as its probably our best chance back into the Champs League next season.
