laughing gooner, i have trouble believing anyone with your viewpoint was a supporter in the 80s but if so surely you remember the absolute barracking neil got before he was sacked and the Arsenal Action Group, you'd also remember Howe was going around in circles making no progress with us finishing 6th/7th (out of a 22 team league so virtually the equivalent of 4th or 5th these days) and of course, he resigned realising that he wasn't the man for the job (oh if only other managers had that humility and self awareness  ) not to mention back then you wouldn't qualify for europe just by finishing 7th, the goalposts have also significantly changed since the graham days and now we play at a stadium fit for a world class side and have yet to make any inroads on becoming on since 2005ish.

so yes, fans are angry and disillusioned because most of us have seen the progress made since the neil era , during david dein's time in particular and its just been to move to a shiny new home to count our money instead of compete. i'm not sure why thats so difficult for you to grasp, you think our fans are happy? did you hear the silence in the bowl today? i don't know anyone who goes anymore because it is a fucking souless, identityless place where local fans have been priced out or simply been told to shut up and sit down by stewards and other fans alike. now look at what you have left. apathetic fans that go to football for something to watch, not for the reasons that old school fans did back when we were shite, when we had camaraderie and we could shout and sing what we like. the fans that are happy with this team don't seem to make any noise about it.

have a look at the banners at the em*rates, "Arsenal france" "Arsenal China" "Arsenal Thailand" "Arsenal South Tibet " blah di blah di blah. I'm going to stop myself because I could go on all day and I know the old laughing "gooner" won't respond sensibly to any posts in here and only posts to wind people up but I felt like getting that off my chest because it hurts me every day. saturdays used to be exciting, even when we were shit. pint down the pub, walk to the ground, lose you voice after 90 minutes of shouting then back to the pub. now half the pubs are closed and the stadium is a whispering gallery so we have nothing left but to get fucked off behind our laptop screens :banghead:

The 80s were "my" decade. Biggest difference between then and now is that we were still The Arsenal Football Club, the club was ours, matches were attended by working class fans not middle class daytrippers and tourists. We went to support the club (and boy did we support them :barscarf: ), not for the "matchday experience" of goodie bags from the club shop, selfies and foot long hotdogs. Never had as much fun at the football ever since a few scouse scumbags, followed by Murdoch, changed it forever.

Things are far from perfect but anyone claiming the club is the same position than in the 80s is simply deluded.

Many here were praising Koeman this time last year. Thank god we didn't replace Wenger with him, as many were calling for.
Some people have some strange ideas of what constitutes racism. However, there are characteristics that Wenger has (some of which are because he is French ... others because he is a complete :censored: ) that I do not welcome as a supporter of an English football club. His snobbish ideas on ''collective expression'' and ''collective leadership'' for example. He has forced his own socialist beliefs on a club which had a tradition of strong individual ability and leadership. The slow and technical continental type football is passionless shite, especially compared to the more aggressive style we had when the team was made up of British and Irish players. And the lack of defensive organisation and the absence of a genuine winning culture at the club makes me sick. As does hearing us called Francenal, or being referred to as a French club playing in England ... largely because there has been a never ending stream of (mostly average) signings from the French league. Quite simply Wenger has changed Arsenal into something the resembles himself and his cultural background ... and I hate him and resent him for doing this. He is an arrogant prick.

Oh and personally I would swap everything we had in the 80s for what we've got now. The players, manager, chairman, board, supporters, stadium, kits, prices ... everything.

But yeah thank God we didnt get Koeman because if he and Wenger had swapped places in the summer we would now be 5th from bottom and Everton would be 5th. It really is that simple isnt it

Great post mate.

I really hate those banners. When I am in a ground with other Arsenal supporters I dont need and dont want to know where you come from or whether or not you are gay. Yet we have banners actually letting us know these things

The posts being made about the stadium atmosphere(or lack of it) is one of the most telling things of how much the club has changed for the worse. The stadium is populated mainly by people, who see football as a thing to do on a Saturday, and couldn't give a shit about what's happening on the pitch. I have lost count of the amount of stories i have read about fans overhearing others at games, talking about work, their holidays, pretty much everything bar the actual club. These sorts of 'fans' suit the club down to the ground, as they will never question anything, and will pay for whatever dross the club throws them. Even the fans who have passion at games, sing songs about the likes of Giroud and Ozil. One is a lazy *word censored*, and the other is a guy who went half a season without a PL goal and then cupped his ear after setting up a goal. This club is well and truly fucked.

Top post mate, that just about sums up how I feel about the club these days, old school support not wanted by the club.I look at the German teams and how they embrace their more vocal fans and work with them,it's makes me feel quite sad the way football is going in this country.Make no mistake this is not just an Arsenal thing I know a few Chelsea and West ham fans and they feel the same about their clubs, when the scum open up their shinny new ground the same will happen to their old school fans.

Great post Henry Norris

I think the problem with Arsenal at present is made worse because of the way modern football is going at the moment.

I don't know about anyone else but i am absolutely sick to death of these international breaks - it was bad enough when international matches were competitive, but now when there are so many teams at the finals then it is just pointless.

What makes these breaks worse is that pundits then moan about fixture congestion :banghead:
Remember the 80s? Used to be a 42 game season back then, unlimited FA Cup replays and.....the season still finished earlier than these days!!!!

And look Brighton at home 12pm on a Sunday will never be a great atmosphere, not now, not even if we were top of the league, and not even back in the 80s

Happy with the 3 points ,onwards and upwards next stop Watford
Neill and Howe cant be compared to Wenger at this point in a season as one was sacked in december, bottom half of the table and knocked out the league cup by warsaw ,and the other one was out of everything by march, the only thing which would have saved them is if they had won a trophy the previous season :rubchin:

Some of the fans who tried to antagonise the protests were certainly not day trippers or tourists. Some of the die hard AKB cultists I've come across are old school Gooners. If this club had a sense of direction and removed the dinosaur when he should've been removed, all these issues would be secondary.

Chavs and scum might have similar issues but it certainly wouldn't be as debilitating as ours. We've undergone prolonged and extensive gentrification thanks to the despicable prick masquerading as a football coach. No other club has and ever will be sanitised like the way we have.

A win is a win, 3 points and moving level with chelski and above Liverpool.
Despite Chris Hughton's Tottenham's past, he still refers to us as The Arsenal. I wish more of our pundit ex-players, our current players, manager and board showed the club the same respect. It's The Arsenal and more people on this forum should use it every fucking day.
