Very true and had meant to say that...SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 10:32 pmFerguson got rid of high profile duds like Veron after a relatively short period of time though......unlike Shit for Brains who 11 years later still has Wally on his books and has also suffered 9 years of Twirly.DB10GOONER wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 7:53 amThe only thing I'd say there though is that Wenger's list of duds (that were duds from day one, and not ruined by him) is comparable to any other manager's list of duds. All managers take a punt, some players work out, some don't. Rednose Ferguson's list of duds was appalling let's not forget. The big difference of course is that managers like Rednose ruined very few of their players in the way Wenger has ruined so many potentially good or great signings.NickF wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2017 10:34 pmAnd yet this was the manager who signed Sonogoals, Andros Santos and the fella with the broken back. Of course not all his signings are shit but there has definitely been a good number that are/were.Arsenal Till I Die wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2017 8:17 pmWe can't just be nieve to think that a vast majority of the players we sign are ''shit.'' They're not. It's a lot to do with the quality of the coaching.

Aw missed out on Cahill from Bolton for 8mil.
Meanwhile in that 10 year period, he has signed and dumped:Silvestri,Vermaelen,Gallas, Squillaci,Miquel,,Gabriel,Mustafi,BFSG,Holding,Chambers..
Now Evans [5mil]is being touted as a brilliant defender with clubs scarmabling

Cahil would've turned into a shipwreck under Wenger.
It really isn't all about personnel. Why are so many people missing this very simple subtlety.

Beginning realize this is the issue.Cahil would've turned into a shipwreck under Wenger.
He left Chambers to die for 90mins the RB position versus Jefferson Montero. Chambers never recovered from that day.
Ditto Per4 on a wet and windy day at Southampton.
Re: The "Mustafi & Poor Defending in general" Thread
Massive turn over of defenders yet same fundamental issues. City's defence is no better than ours yet we've conceded nearly twice as many goals. They defend on the front foot, we don't.

They cannot defend on the front foot because there is always a gaping hole in front of them and they are either pulled hopelessly out of shape or furiously back pedalling. It's actually chaotic...and nobody is even noticing what is going on, how bad it really is. Wenger is doing his usual deflecting and our idiot fans only care about being above spurs. If teams like Southampton, Burnley, even WH had slightly more quality, more firepower, we would have lost those games as well.
Re: The "Mustafi & Poor Defending in general" Thread
Correct, Fernandinho never abandons his area of responsibility.Meanwhile Ramsey is forward of Laccazette and Xhaka cannot even run.
Re: The "Mustafi & Poor Defending in general" Thread
Fernandinho at 32years is more mobile than Xhaka who is 7years younger. He's City's pivot and allows the creative players to play. I also think Wanyama's absence is one of the main reasons Spurs are struggling. All the top teams have a mobile ball winner who can shield the defence and act as a ball carrier. We haven't got one and there's a reason why Mourinho paid more for an older Matic than we paid for Xhaka.
Re: The "Mustafi & Poor Defending in general" Thread
The problem also is that even if we buy a ball winner, Wenger would still want them to get forward and create. This is why Coquelin has regressed to the point of no return. Wengerhates dedicated defensive midfielders because in his warped mind we are an attacking side and playing good defensive football is beneath us. Problem is this team has no playing identity - it's not an attacking side, a defensive side or counter attacking side. No one knows what they are and they excel at nothing apart from the occasional cup final like performance.

We all saw how Vieira changed our midfield and the success it brought our club. After seeing something work well it's just been utter madness to try and be solid without and midfield general. Also he could have concentrated on our goalkeeper position over the last 10 years.General wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2017 12:52 pmThe problem also is that even if we buy a ball winner, Wenger would still want them to get forward and create. When you think about it, the chavs have executed this approach to great effect for the past decade and have always had a strong athletic midfield. The end result is 5PL titles since the last time we won it. I don't think they have particularly great defenders either but when the midfield is so dominant you can mask an average backline. Azpilicueta was consistently played out of position and Luiz can be headless chicken. Both would be exposed in our backline.supergeorgegraham wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2017 8:54 amWe all saw how Vieira changed our midfield and the success it brought our club. Re: The "Mustafi & Poor Defending in general" Thread
This thread should be pinned to the top. Wenger inability to sign a good defender is the reason he was sacked and why we have fallen out of the CL.
Mustafi has to be the biggest waste of money in Arsenals history. 35 Million plus his weekly wages are a joke.
He will screw up against United then screw up against Madrid.
Whoever takes over make sure you remove this utter waste of space from our club or you will suffer the same fate as Wenger.

Isnt it amazing that when you have good players in our squad they frequently get injured, but this useless german c.unt never seems to miss a game and plays even when we rotate

His inability to acknowledge a mistake in the transfer market (or internal transfer market) is frightening.
Mustafi is a complete fucking disaster. He should be fucking gone but he hasn’t been and if Wenger was still here next year he’d still be first choice - because Wenger has spent too much money on him and is too arrogant to acknowledge he’s a waste of space.
Iwobi has been overpromoted and is unwaveringly shit - Wenger won’t acknowledge that he’s rated him too highly and just keeps playing him in the forlorn hope he’ll come good.
Guardiola made a big call in bombing out Joe Hart and putting his own man in there Claudio Bravo. It would have been easy to get defensive and stick with him despite being shaky last season - instead he realised that it hadn’t worked out and went out and signed Ederson, who has been class this year and made a huge difference. Winning means a lot more than his ego.

How on earth can you work with Adams, Keown then sign Sol Campbell who is a rock for 3 seasons then after years of poor defenders decide that Mustafi is the expensive solution to your central defensive issue.
As a self funding club we can't afford to replace expensive mistakes. I can't see a big list of clubs wanting to sign this German Rock !
