Never a chance that FN would get elected - getting 35% in the run-off is absolutely astounding mind given that they lie about halfway between UKIP and the BNP. Worrying that around 11m people in such a multicultural society want to elect a bunch of raving lunatics. And anybody who equates a vote for the FN with a vote for Brexit is a fool.

Nobody would have won from Le Pen getting elected - Uk included. It would have plunged the EU into complete fight or flight mode, and the most likely way to foster an attitude of wanting to punish the UK to avoid France leaving which would absolutely ruin the EU.

And Macron has won the election but has zero MPs, whilst the effect of the run-off and all the other candidates backing Macron is that the FN is now presenting itself as the sole credible opposition and will continue to improve in electoral popularity unless the centre-right takes a huge leap to the right. The country is in complete political chaos.
Brexit 52 - 48

"a clear decisive victory"

Macron 66 - 34

"OMG France is so divided"

I've seen that posted on social media and it looked equally stupid there.

Even the most swivel-eyed loons I've seen haven't claimed that the electorate wasn't divided on Brexit. It would be utter nonsense to claim otherwise. But the argument being made (agree or not) is that that in itself isn't a reason to introduce shades into what was a dichotomic question. And the context of a one-off referendum is obviously different to the ever-changing game of political power.

I don't know about Macron but I'm glad France managed to stump up a charismatic candidate who beat Le Pen. However, France is now in a situation where they have a president with no MPs and a FN party who has positioned itself as the only credible 'opposition', given that every other leader keenly backed Macron (for good reasons).

France is divided because when faced with a stark choice, nearly 35% of voters decided that they wanted the radical leader of a far right-wing party to be their President. And as is the nature of being in opposition (unless you're Jeremy corbyn), they are likely to simply grow in popularity as they can sit back without having to have their records or policies scrutinised and criticise Macron for anything which goes wrong.
She is not far right. Many of her policies are socialist. The press labels her far right because of her tough stance on Islamic terrorism and migration. They really want to call her a nazi but can't for legal reasons.

France is fucked. Let them stew in the piss of the third world hellhole they seem to welcome and enjoy.
So she is a nationalist and a socialist. I wonder where that has been heard before. National Socialism (German: Nationalsozialismus), more commonly known as Nazism (/ˈnɑːtsɪzəm, ˈnæ-/[1]),
You absolute cretin. The label of Nazi (far right) today is often used against anyone on the right, with obvious fascist authoritarian implications. It's casually banded about by the left and the so called anti-fascists. We are not talking about the German Nazi (National Socialist) but in the far right fascist terminology.

If she is a ''Nazi'' then she can't be a far right fascist, can she? Like the media proclaims. Since she has typically leftist policies. Are you really that thick to not understand the nuance of the subject matter?

''Hurr durr durr, she be a nationalist AND a socialist so she must be a Nazi like Hitler. We hate Nazis!!!111'' Chippy, probably.

Still curious how you couldn't provide evidence of the mysterious economic collapse you said happened. Conveniently ignored.

She is a Nationalist with Socialist ideals and admires Russia but hates Federalist Europe which Germany leads...
I hope that is a clear and consise description...

Franco and Mussolini (IL Duce) were Fascists (Blackshirts)
Germany's National Socialists were Brownshirts, absolutely no Socialism whatsoever more like Totalitarianism....

Think you'll all find they were the NSDAP so neither right or left wing, it is only modern history that equates them as pure right wing, they were a conglomerate of the Nationalist right, socialist centre left and workers party who were centrist but you know, lets not let the truth get in the road of a good story or political soundbite

No matter how much of a raving social liberal you are you cannot even equate the idiots in UKIP, nor even the the raving nutters in the BNP as being even close to what the Nazis were, you might as well equate the 'Socialist' Labour party to Stalinist Communism :banghead:

Get a sense of perspective people, it's becoming embarrassing on here at times

I'm surprised that there is so much interest in other countries - I thought that the point of the Brexiters was to bury their heads in the sand and just concentrate on the UK.

anyway the good news is that as I predicted we are all getting poorer

Rob your posts are getting worse, that is quite frankly the most embarrassing post ive seen for a while.

Why would Brexiters not be interested in other countries or history?

and why is it good news that we are poorer? So you can be proved right?

obviously it is not good news that we are getting poorer - its just that this was always going to be the obvious consequence of Brexit.
I am just trying to wake a few people up. I am not wanting to be proved right - its just that in the case of Brexit I always will be.

Rob ,the reason why so many voted out ?

When you ain't got nothing you've got nothing to lose.
Pretty much sums it up for people that see membership as a financial drain where the money could be spent better elsewhere.

I have heard a lot of leavers come out with this utter nonsense.

I take it you are typing this either on a phone or a PC? that means that you have material possessions.
the only people with nothing to lose are those that are sleeping on the streets (increasing numbers by the way)

otherwise I am afraid those in society who dont have a great deal (but not nothing) have the most to lose from Brexit.
everyone is going to become poorer, the NHS is going to become non existent, all because of the billions that is being spent on this futile Brexit idea.
dont forget although we pay a bit into the EU that we get a lot back - most of the EU grants go to the disadvantaged areas of the UK. These regions wont get that money post Brexit.

yes the current system is not great, I am not a big fan of the EU, but it is a lot better than the alternative.

Absolutely, my motorway / A road loving friend.

Those who have nothing will always get by, by hook or crook because they have always done so.
Those who have lots are only concerned with how much they might lose personally, not what is best for the country as a whole.
(And they will not live in the areas affected by the immigrants / asylum seekers, so have no idea what others are going through )

The PM of Luxembourg? Couldn't you find a smaller less significant country to quote?

We pay a "bit" I to the Eu   why do you think they are so upset at us leaving - the rest will have to increase their payment to make up the difference.

"We get a lot back".........but not anywhere near as much as we pay in, hence the problem, a never ending drain on our money that we could and should be deciding where to spend it - schools, nhs, police, transport , etc.
