The One Album,One Book,One Film Thread

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

ps: Did a quick search on YouTube and saw this, don't know if it's what we're on about.

phpBB [video]
I don't think that this film has anything to do with the book, maybe just a coincidence with the title.
The book is "The Dice Man." the film is ,"The Diceman."

Read the book back in the 80's. They never made a movie out of it but they did make a play and two different TV mini-series apparently. He also wrote a couple of sequels and a "companion" piece but I haven't read them.

Okay peeps! if you were stranded on a Desert Island and knew you for sure you would be there for at least 3 years - (All the food and drinking water you might need and a Linn Top of the Range Stereo system and DVD Player with 26"Mac Screen and 8' x 12' Solar Panels just so happened to wash up on shore when the vessel went down  )

What 33rpm album and 45rpm single, 2 books and DVD would you rescue to keep you company?

HAHAHA...sorry to ruin your day, I'm definitely not a middle aged woman. :D

The Betsy was the first film I saw with full frontal nude women, as a youngster...stuck in my mind after that. It's set in Detroit about the fading American car industry. Easy reading.

My Other Three Choices...This week anyway...

Album: Renaissance of the Celtic Harp - Alan Stivell

Book: The Shamanic Way of the Bee - Dr Simon Buxton

Film: Almost Famous (Dir/Written) - Cameron Crowe.

:barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:
If you are cheating so am I.
2nd choice:-
Album:- L.A. Woman,The Doors
Book:- The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test,Tom Wolfe
Film:- 12 Angry Men,Dir. Sidney Lumet

3rd choice:-
Album:- Presence,Led Zeppelin
Book:-The Dice Man,Luke Rhinehart,(George Cockcroft)
Film:-Koyaanisqatsi
Now that was a book of it's time. One chapter was only three words! I remember that on the back cover it stated "soon to be a major motion picture" but forty years on I've never seen it. Was it ever made?
I'm pretty certain it was - in the late 70's or early 80's - I recall reading the book and thinking 'Wow'! That's a ballsy approach to life. The film - like yourself I've never seen it - But something tells me it didn't get good reviews, which can often be the way when a film is made/based on a decent book. :?
There was an episode of Luther about a serial killer using the dice to decide what to do - remember thinking at the time it was loosely based on the book. Fantastic idea for a novel although I wasn't a massive fan of Rhinehart's book (only vaguely remember it to be fair - might have to revisit!)

Album..Blind Faith by... Blind Faith. Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker.

Book...For Those I Loved...by Martin Gray. A true story from a Jewish guy who experienced the horrors of WW2 in Warsaw and Treblinka. It's out of print now. I managed to get a copy from a book depository in New York. It should have been a Hollywood blockbuster.

Film...The Quiet Man. John Wayne not being a cowboy. He played an ex boxer raised in the USA by his Irish mother. He returns to his roots in a small Irish town. Brilliant. Made in 1952.
