Chelsea (A) | League Cup SF L1 | Wed 10 Jan 20:00

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

And there we are - Kante has to make a second lunge from behind getting nowhere near the ball before he gets a yellow.

Xhaka meanwhile doing his best to try the referee's patience, having not been giving the good grace of one freebie tackle from behind.

Terrible game. Spent most of our time defending and Chelsea are missing chance after chance.
Wouldn't surprise me if we nick a (probably undeserved) goal.
yeah second half one way traffic......holding out for a draw by the looks of it

Agree - have to say though that they have hardly looked like carving us apart. As negative and uninspiring as we've been, they have been really poor.

Wouldn't mind playing against Morata every week mind. Hazard had a complete stinker as well.

Are we becoming what the bindippers were to the chavs 10 years ago or so? Always on the backfoot against them but somehow managing to avoid defeat?

Any *word censored* giving that 3rd umpire cricket tv sign should be booked. Because most of the players and managers are complete *word censored*, we'll be getting that every fucking time and weak refs will be giving in to it when surrounded by the players. They need to get tough on anyone getting round the ref to bully him into checking.

Predictably, the issue with VAR is that officials are fucking useless at using it. That was a tenuous penalty shout which nobody apart from Conte and the fans appealed for, play goes on for about 30 seconds and then everybody stands still waiting whilst somebody talks in the ref's ear. You can see from the first replay that Welbeck obviously got the ball so what took so fucking long? Fucking farce.

For me the way to make VAR is a success is by letting people hear what the officials are saying when it's used - like in rugby. It would be useful to actually understand referee's perspectives on decisions, given that they are never required to admit to making a mistake or explain why any particular decision was given. It's also going to be the only way to ensure transparency over the 'clear and obvious' threshold for overturning decisions, and how the decision-making between the VAR official and the referee works.
