The Oirish
I'm a big fan of the Irish. Bejaysus, begorah and all that.
I'm also a big fan of scientific research of all sorts. So. When I looked at the following link from an excellent site called I Fucking Love Science.....I thought straight away of our DB10 and his assertion that the randy Irish have impregnated half the planet. It would appear that, conversely, half the planet have impregnated the Irish.

Re: The Oirish
If this is all about how gay rugby is and how utterly fucking ***** that six nations gay pride event is, then I'm all for it. If it's about the Irish wanting to be English, I can completely understand it.

Re: The Oirish
Anthems?? Plural...I like our proper National Anthem which translates into "A Soldier's Song" but that fucking sickly "Ireland's Call" is so clichéd it fucking rots my Bollox..arseofacrow wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2018 2:23 pmThe Oirish national anthems are as shit as god saves the sponger.

Re: The Oirish
The English version of the the one verse that we sing in Gaelic, it's along f**king song that would take about 10 minutes if we knew it much like the God save the Queen.
Soldiers are we
whose lives are pledged to Ireland
Some have come
from a land beyond the wave
Sworn to be free
No more our ancient sire land
Shall shelter the despot or the slave
Tonight we man the gap of danger
In Erin's cause, come woe or weal
'Mid cannons' roar and rifles peal
We'll chant a soldier's song.
The Gaelic version
Sinne Fianna Fáil,
atá faoi gheall ag Éirinn,
Buíon dár slua
thar toinn do ráinig chugainn,
Faoi mhóid bheith saor
Seantír ár sinsear feasta,
Ní fhágfar faoin tíorán ná faoin tráill.
Anocht a théam sa bhearna baoil,
Le gean ar Ghaeil, chun báis nó saoil,
Le gunna scréach faoi lámhach na bpiléar,
Seo libh canaídh amhrán na bhfiann
Soldiers are we
whose lives are pledged to Ireland
Some have come
from a land beyond the wave
Sworn to be free
No more our ancient sire land
Shall shelter the despot or the slave
Tonight we man the gap of danger
In Erin's cause, come woe or weal
'Mid cannons' roar and rifles peal
We'll chant a soldier's song.
The Gaelic version
Sinne Fianna Fáil,
atá faoi gheall ag Éirinn,
Buíon dár slua
thar toinn do ráinig chugainn,
Faoi mhóid bheith saor
Seantír ár sinsear feasta,
Ní fhágfar faoin tíorán ná faoin tráill.
Anocht a théam sa bhearna baoil,
Le gean ar Ghaeil, chun báis nó saoil,
Le gunna scréach faoi lámhach na bpiléar,
Seo libh canaídh amhrán na bhfiann

Why is the second verse in Arabic?

Re: The Oirish
Officially it used to be "God Bless The Prince Of Wales" (Imposed on us by the Ingerlish) at least it was until 1905 when "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" (Land Of My Fathers) usurped it.arseofacrow wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2018 2:23 pmThe Oirish national anthems are as shit as god saves the sponger.
The Welsh national anthem is very good
Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau
Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mad,
Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed.
(Chorus)
Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad.
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.
Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd,
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i'm golwg sydd hardd;
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si
Ei nentydd, afonydd, i fi.
Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad.
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.
Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad tan ei droed,
Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ag erioed,
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.
Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad.
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.
There are various translations - depending on whether using Old Welsh or new (South Walian) welsh.
This is pretty close:
Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau
This land of my fathers is dear to me
Land of poets and singers, and people of stature
Her brave warriors, fine patriots
Shed their blood for freedom
(Chorus)
Land! Land! I am true to my land!
As long as the sea serves as a wall for this pure, dear land
May the language endure for ever.
Old land of the mountains, paradise of the poets,
Every valley, every cliff a beauty guards;
Through love of my country, enchanting voices will be
Her streams and rivers to me.
Land! Land! I am true to my land!
As long as the sea serves as a wall for this pure, dear land
May the language endure for ever.
Though the enemy have trampled my country underfoot,
The old language of the Welsh knows no retreat,
The spirit is not hindered by the treacherous hand
Nor silenced the sweet harp of my land.
Land! Land! I am true to my land!
As long as the sea serves as a wall for this pure, dear land
May the language endure for ever.
