In the last hour according to ssn chelski have submitted a bid to buy battersea power station and surrounding area with plans for a sixty thousand seater stadium.

Will they fill this week in, week out, if they do will they end up the biggest club in London (obviously they don't have our history but could win the cl and have won recent competitions), and surely will meet with these new fair play rules in the coming years.

I thought they had to get approval from the Chelsea Pitch Owners Association.

Indeed it is listed but the area around it would be fine to build a stadium, that are planning a shopping centre etc so it is a large scale investment,

Plus there is a Northern Line extension scheduled for Battersea too.

I think London is a large enough (and growing) city to have us and Chelsea and Spurs and West Ham as clubs with large stadiums.

But I think the smaller London clubs will remain small.

All the sports media who are on twitter are reporting it. Perhaps Abramovich will do what Arsenal did at Highbury, make the ground flats and then the pitch owners can keep the pitch as a garden or start sending his friends round to see if they can 'talk' to the pitch owners!!!!

The listed status of the power station does seem to hinder this but who knows what favours one might receive if a certain Russian billionaire were to start throwing a few quid in the direction of Lambeth council. I remember reading somewhere that the Chavs would have to change their name if they ever managed to move from their National Front stronghold of Shitford Bridge. Something to do with the legal name belonging to another party.

This means that should Chelsea move to another stadium in the future, they would not be able to use the name Chelsea Football Club without permission from 75% of CPO shareholders

He isn't a member of any sort but had no problems getting 2 tickets.

I serously doubt if they could fill a 60,000 seat stadium.

surely they'd just call themselves fc chelsea or (hopefully) something gay like chelsea united! then let the chelsea pitch owners enjoy owning a piece of grass in the middle of a load of flats

I think it is the 4 towers that are listed and they'll incorporate those into the stadiums design.

It doesn't matter if they don't fill it, do you really think they'll build a stadium with the risk that it needs to be at maximum capacity week in week out? Of course not. I can't remember where I heard but club level and all the corporate boxes/seats at the Grove equate to the same amount of match day income we made at Highbury.

Also, the Northern line will be extended which means easier access as well as easier access for tourists to get to. The Battersea Power station site is massive, they're basically going to make a new high street, housing, offices etc.

When this story broke I spoke to a few mates who are involved in the CPO, all three dead against the move, and one of em's the chairperson.Hopefully it won't happen.
