Richards being left out is ridiculous.

He said he played against Ambrosini & Pirlo at the grove and was impressed with how he dealt with them.

Ambrosini didn't play and Pirlo is at Juve.

Embarrassing. Imo Ox isn't ready to go yet. But to claim he played well against Pirlo is well..
i just think when coaches take the role, they think what will the press think...I better include X so I don't upset certain clubs.

I want Roy to do well, and he is always going to get grief from quarters about his selection, but his decisions imo are dodgy.

Would have taken Crouch over Defoe. People laugh at Crouch but he gets goals for England.

Downing seems to be included to supply crosses for Carroll, but can think of little else he does.

Gutter for Adam Johnson who is a very good player, if I was him I would look to move to a club where regular first team football is likely.

Would have preferred Ferdinand to Terry, I just cannot stand Terry and I think he will be bad for morale.

I think this squad was effectively chosen for Roy. I rate Richards but he is not citeh regular right back, johnson can play either rb or lb. Rio hasn't been a regular in the england squad for 2 years. Has everyone forgotten he went to 2010 world cup as captain and didn't play as he got injured, he's too much of injury risk and that would disrupt the team plan. Jones can cover cb,rb and dm so a much more versitile option than Richards and Rio. I also would've chosen Carroll ahead of Crouch, he works harder for the team and pretty useful in defensive situation. Just surprised Bent and Carrick didn't make the squad. Very surprised the Ox made the cut, can't see him playing unless we get to the 3rd/4th play off. Stevie G is the best English captain around. There is only one trophy he hasn't lifted, and as he's won more cups than any other player in the squad. This is a cup competition so it makes sense. It's a well balanced squad. Let's just hope the french and dutch self implode.

Happy for the Ox. :barscarf:

BUT............Woy has had a shocker calling up Downing (0 goals 0 assists) and Glen fucking Johnson over PL champions Adam Johnson and Richards. I'm sorry but Richards is twice the defender Glen Johnson is and Downing well his stats speak for themselves, absolute dogshite winger.

Also looking forward to watching Walnut embarrass himself in front of a world wide audience.

Have a feeling Woy will do alright. He's in control at the moment. He's just cancelled that training camp in Spain as he couldn't see the point of it. This is where International experience comes into play. The FA have got it right IMO. Give him a chance. I think you'll all be pleasantly surprised.

First thing the FA have done right for years. Appointed on merit instead of a journo's mate. Harry would have sunk without trace after arse-licking senior players who have consistently let us down for years. This squad is steady eddy with a few pieces of flair. Hodgson will organise them and work them hard. I met Danny Murphy at a wedding once. He said Woy was the toughest manager he's ever had. And he gets results.

As the expectations of the Engligh public are clearly low, if I was Woy, i'd get rid of all that generation that went bad and would have taken a very young team to the Euros, nothing to lose, everything to gain.

Good to see the daggers are out for Roy already. This circus would be enjoyable were it not so predictable.

I probably would have taken Richards and Ferdinand and left out terry but I dont see how a case can be made that there is a vastly better potential England squad then the one he has picked so I hope the media and fans just shut up until the tournament and appreciate that its a game of opinions.

I'm more and more resigned to the fact that until he keels over we're never going to get fat frank out of an England shirt.

8)

It's not Roy's fault he has such a bad pool of players to choose from. I think he's a good choice, and knows how things work on the international front. Whether it will be enough to keep this group of children interested for longer than 5 minutes is doubtful.

However, I do believe that Downing mus accumluate some dossier on every manager he works for, because there can't be any other reason for his inclusion.

I think woy will prove to be a correct appointment if the media dont force him out without giving him a chance. That said, my summers wouldnt feel complete without watching engerland self combust at a major championship finals again

Rio,
In principal I agree with you. Given the perennial failure of the existing squad I would have liked younger players to go. Injuries have robbed us of a few, but the sad truth is that we don't have a pool of good young players.

Where are the promising young defenders, or midfielders, or strikers? The PL has the best players in the world, it's just that very few of them are English. The truth is that the uninspiring group of players in Roy's squad are the best available. Very depressing.

Jordan Henderson replaces injured Frank Lampard.

I would have brought in either Richards, Crouch or Adam Johnson ahead of a player who has had a non descript season.
