Anthems

Post by daftbugger »

A suitable anthem has to be easy to remember (simple lyrics that is) and easy to sing - for those with a limited vocal range.

I would discount Danny Boy as too nationalistic, and Bridge Over TW, He Aint Heavy and Over The Rainbow as too vocally challenging. I only have eyes is possibly a little lightweight and could be not well known.

The other 4 all have possibilities.

Has "Hey Jude" been considered? Lyrics simple (almost non-existent) and certainly rousing.

Some good suggestions, how about the following:

Aussy Dude John Farnham that was No 1 for 27 weeks with Your the voice. Check out the Chorus:

You're the voice, try and understand it
Make it noise and make it clear
Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo
We're not gonna sit in silence
We're not gonna live with fear
Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo

Imagine that belowing out. That would stick it to the Library labelists.

Very rousing and the words are perfect!!!

And Gold by the Gooner band Spandau Ballet:

Gold
Always believe in your soul
You've got the power to know
You're indestructable
Always believe in,because you are
Gold

Good words again and genuine Arsenal origin

Arsenal Anthem

and this one from the irish contingent, although I accept this may not go down with all and is about Dublin. But what a song:

In Dublin City where the girls are so pretty
I once knew a girl called sweet Molly Mullone
She wheeled her barrow through the streets wide and narrow
singing cockels and mussles alive alive oh
cockels and mussels
cockels and mussels
singing cockles and mussles alive alive oh

that's already a Arsenal song but doesn't seem to get aired regulary anymore..

In London's fair city
Where the girls are so pretty
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone
She wheeled her wheelbarrow
Through Streets broad and narrow
singing
(clap...clap..clapclapclap..clapclapclapclap)
ARSENAL

Cheers N22 Gooner, never heard that at Highbury? (since 88 and my first proper season) I wish it would come back!

This was an Arsenal song (or maybe chant as few words...) of old. Difficult to explain, but kind of went...."Laaa, la, la, lalalalaaa, lalalalaaa, Arse_nal", repeat.
