Arsenal supporting Spandau Ballet's Through the Barricades. Both rousing and apt, do you think?
Mother doesn't know where love has gone
She says it must be youth
That keeps us feeeling strong
See it in her face, that's turned to ice
And when she smiles she shows
The lines of sacrifice
And now I know what they're saying
When the sun begins to fade
And we made our love on wasteland
And through the barricades
Father made my history
He fought for what he thought
Would set us somehow free
He tought me what to say in school
I learned off by heart
But now that's torn in two
And now I know what they're saying
In the music of the parade
We made our love on wasteland
And through the barricades
Born on different sides of life
We feel the same
And feel all of this strife
So come to me when I'm asleep
We'll cross the line
And dance upon the street
And now I know what they're saying
When the drums begin to fade
We made our love on wasteland
And through the barricades
Oh, turn around and I'll be there
There's a scar through my heart
But I'll bare it again
I thought? we were the human race
But we were just another border-line-case
And the stars reach down and tell us
That there's always one escape
I don't know where love has gone
And in this trouble land
Desperation keep us strong
Fridays child is full of soul
With nothing left to lose
There's everything to go
And now I know what they're are saying
It's a terrible beauty we've made
So we make our love on? wasteland
And through the barricades
Now I know what they're are saying
As hearts go to their graves
We made our love on? wasteland

This will certainly be disqualified for being too recent, but I think 'Invincible' by Muse would be brilliant sung by 60,000 people (Or 56,000...). It's far too recent I know and Muse appeal a bit to a niche market, namely rock fans, although they are becomming much more mainstream now. But seeing it played at Wembley, it was inspiring, stirring and uplifting, and the lyrics certainly apply:

Follow through
Make your dreams come true
Don't give up the fight
You will be alright
'Cause there's no one like you in the universe

Don't be afraid
What your mind conceives
You should make a stand
Stand up for what you believe
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible

The chorus talks of a struggle and having to 'turn things around' which wouldn't be so appropriate as we'd hope we won't have to turn things around! But still the whole 'Together we're invincible thing I think would sound great.

'Build me up Buttercup' is about raising someone's hopes just to dash them. Although this would probably fit our team well, I'm not sure it will be an ideal anthem.

Weren't we meant to stop commenting on this thread?

Gold is a song which would rev the players up.

'You're indestructable always believe in your soul'

Thanks for the reply

The only suggestion here worthy of even thinking about is Jerusalem, and it hasn't even made the shortlist, which fucking Rainbow did.. Christ.

Good old Arsenal is the only one we can think about but if we are going to use this song then lets get extra verses made up for it, lets face it we only know 2-3 lines of it. What do you think????????

God I am literally crinigng reading this topic.Complete manufacturing that Simon Cowell would be ashamed to try and duplicate. How about we get Nigel the mortgage adviser from Radlett or Noah the sociology student that has been supporitng Arsenal since his daddy had to find somewhere for the two of them to bond since he only gets access at weekends to do a rendition then all the geeks who have invaded Arsenal over the last few years can all ring a premium number to vote for their favourite.
To think some of you have the cheek to chant at Chelsea they have no history.
Nick "Im the biggest Arsenal supporter ever but I couldnt be arsed to go to Anfield 89" Hornby you have a lot to answer for you bald headed middle class cretin.

TRY THIS TO "JERUSALEM"

Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my Arsenal of desire
Bring me my beer, O clouds unfold
Bring me La Boss on fire
I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my support sleep in my hand
Till we have built Jerusalem
In Ashburton's (or Emirates) green and pleasant land

Amen

I know its not your Lennon & McCartney but no fucking sarcastic comments back please especially from the two Ronnies[/i]
