Emirates Cup 2013/Galatasary and Trouble at Overseas Games

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Pissed me off far more that the club couldn't synch the commentary on the Next Gen stream last night
amateur hour.

It's the only time in my life I've seen guys walking the streets openly carrying large knives, and cars and scooters were going round (turks), 'spotting' small groups of Gooners they could attack and then using a mobile to inform a mob nearby.
There WILL be trouble if Gala come to the Emirates. Guaranteed. A lot of people still bear grudges (and many rightly so).
We had a mob of them openly showing us the knives they were going to stab us with. These are a crowd of appalling bastards, cowards and scumbags and honestly that is about 90% of their support - it isn't the minority. :x

Those guys in their twenties are now in their forties...
Gala have been in Europe solidly since that final, decade and a half
very little trouble.

I've worn colours down to Chels several times in last few years
that was cry for help suicide attempt in the 80s/early 90s...

Im guessing 'some' of you who are advising it will be ok with gala visiting would also have advised walking on foot to the stadio olympico for roma away when we played them ....

Clueless

from my point of view i don't think the potential for trouble has ever been the main issue here, it's the lack of respect in inviting them that I have a problem with. que sera sera if it happens, but like i've said they could have invited any other turkish team and not had this issue. big PR flop from arsenal

i dont think there will be trouble near the ground even if any leeds show up, it will be taken elsewhere. if there is trouble near the ground the Emirates Cup will be on its last legs as it's a preseason friendly in essence and the families who make up a large percentage of the attendance will be scared away

I did, over the bridge, was no problem
Only Gooners who have an issue (pen shoot out game) were on one of the official buses
which was 'accidentally' driven into a mob of waiting aggressive ultras - a setup IMO
vast majority of Roma fans are pretty safe - unlike fascisti Lazio

when we beat Lazio away (Nedved for them, Pires first goal?) was much more messy
but after the game, not on the way

Was that not a private minibus? I went on an official bus, straight there, after a wait in some park, under police escort and back.

I thought it was the bus at the back of the convoy that got lost? Don't think i'll ever forget the sight of Italian Police on motorbikes rushing us through the city centre whilst hit any cars with batons that dared to pull alongside the buses.

I remember the bus scenario being a farce after the match though, everyone crushed on and not moving for what felt like an eternity.

I was on one of the official buses from that park, our windows got put in by ultras using golfballs and spanners whilst on mopeds on the flyover near the stadium, the bus that got driven the wrong way was an unnofficial ... i remember seeing that pull into the pen about 40 mins after we were waiting there to get in.... state of it ...

worst three days away ever, when we had fun we had fun but ultras seemed to have spotters at every irish bar in town and we seemed to be attacked everywhere we went and followed by the real enemies (cabinieri) where ever we went (without looking for it or wearing shirts)

3 of us were having breakfast in a cafe terrace in the vatican city the day after the game and we had a riot van pull up open out patting their batons (no homo) and watch us eat from 4ft away, we just carried on eating breakfast then got followed back to our hotel, then subsequently to the airport terminal building...

maybe they just wanted to make sure we were fucking off back home ????

Fuck Rome Shithole

I love Rome
if you're going to Euro away games
and don't want any trouble - Irish pubs are seriously not the way to go
