Old gits terrace legends

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Two classic 4be2 tracks here from the early 80s , loved this band, summed up the great away support we used to take everywhere in those days, huge Arsenal support for them as well.

After that i see at the clockend a wave go towards the chavski and the singing started''Your'e never take the North Bank'' and ''Clockend do your job''.I then, after that experience, got a p/t job just to go to watch the Arsenal every game instead of waiting for me pocket money and going to home games only.Like i said happy days then  and the stories my uncle told me probably made me more proud to be a gooner.
My memory of the mid/late 70's (that 2-1 game does stick in the memory!) early 80's was that Chavs rarely had a crack at the North Bank but it was normal for West Ham & the Spuds to be in there and normally in sufficient numbers that the old bill didn't try to get them out.

I know I've mentioned this on other threads before, but does anyone else remember when Crystal Palace came into ("take" wuld be stretching it...) the North Bank only for us to get our revenge in style the following season?

I have so many memories as a scruffy teenager on the North Bank, Clock End or Schoolboys Enclosure with my mates. Some of them supported Spuds, West Ham, Chavs and I also regularly went along with them to their games. Lost count how many Spuds home games I've been to.

You could do that but never any question of who you really supported and at school we had a great time winding each other up. It was like all the other kids in the school were active supporters and all supported London teams. It was cheap to get in and you could always pay on the gate.

These days my kids sit in the comfort of the family enclosure and only go when I take them. The decision to go to a game needs to be made weeks in advance. There is little trouble, but also little atmosphere. We go to away games in the comfort of our car, not the football special.

Some things have definitely improved, but I just can't imagine an "old gits" thread with them contributing in 30-40 years time.....! Bit sad that!

Beginning to think I must have been.... :) !

My memory is that some gooners pretended they were Palace and were then escorted out of the North Bank. But the group grew all the time with other gooners (me included) joining in, many even wearing red & white scarves. Chanting "Palace, Palace" the group, by now several hundred strong group were led along the bottom of the west stand and into the clock end to join the rest of the Palace fans. The police, unlike just about everyone in the ground at that time, didn't have a clue what was going on.....

OK! Yes, think my memory must have been drug induced..... !
