:D listen to this...im one step away from sticking a fork into a socket and yer askin me to swap out valves :D

i mean i have a much much smaller vox amp that does a job, im just disappointment now that the spark amp could make my effects board redundant.......

If only i invested as much time into practice as i do into gear i'd be way way better at this stuff
Valve amps are old school technology so need be maintained, even the new ones, plus the modern valves made in China are often unreliable & noisy & don't sound as good. Compared to old school GB & USA or Euro ones which are rare & expensive.

You can use old soviet valves which are also decent but Ukraine - Russia war has made those prices go up.

If you're not doing regular gigs or recording, a amp like the AC15 is probably not needed for home playing. Maybe you should get it properly serviced so it's working 100% & then see how it sounds!
:barscarf:
See thats the thing, I bought it in a kind of a "ill never need another amp" sort of way, So the amp is brand new, tested in the shop....not a bother and sounds amazing.
Back at my place switch the amp on with nothing plugged in and theres no problem.
Plug a guitar in and you get "the noise"
and DB's advice of shielding is of course valid, but ive 4 guitars, whats the odds of all 4 having a shielding issue.
Then brought it back to the shop and of course its perfect.
Its no big deal i mean its in the corner of a room at home doing nothing, its just a pity to have it and not be using it.

What did they say in the Shop mate? When you took it back? Did they offer any suggestions/ solutions?

It would be such a shame to not be able to use it fully etc :?

along the lines of "its working fine so not really our problem" recommended a noise gate pedal (no use) and some sort of "power cleaning" extension lead which also didnt do anything.

If i can manage it ill record it and upload it somewhere and give you a link to listen to it

Silly Question.

Have you looked online / You Tube etc... I have lost count of the times I have found an answer or solution to something that has had me baffled on there.

absolutely, you know yourself..sometimes you get so far into these things that you cant see the wood for the trees.

Ive been around the house checking all the earthing on sockets, checking im getting enough voltage out of sockets, ive isolated sockets and switched off every other fuse in the house. ive had it facing N S E W to see if its different, ive had regular cables, gold plated cables, platinum cable.....ive run extension leads into the middle of the garden and plugged in there.....ive done ancient incantations to gods that no longer exist :)

cant find the cause. then i got a small pair of vox headphones with the guitar jack on the end to test out all 4 guitars....not a blip outta any of them, even the single coil strat is pretty much noiseless (should be for that money).........im stumped...and i dont mind admitting im clueless as to how to progress.

just a few examples

first link is with nothing pluuged in and both volumes up full

https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj4NhJs0fZg8gqtyo19 ... Q?e=IkAzcB

2nd is with a gretsch electromatic

https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj4NhJs0fZg8gqt0U8s ... Q?e=RRIjIR

3rd is a strat ultra with ultra noiseless pickups

https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj4NhJs0fZg8gqtzoCy ... g?e=IjEEgU

both of those guitars were setup by a pro from the off so id imagine if there were something amiss it would have been pointed out then, but like i say im at a loss, no harm in you lads having a listen though.

White noise / hiss is often the valves. If you can check yer lecky you can swap a couple of valves! They're just like mini light bulbs! Use an oven glove if the amp has been switched on, switch off at the wall first / remove power cable.

Modern Vox AC15C have 3 pre amp ECC83 / 12AX7 valves, plus the 2 power amp valves EL84's (no need to check these if the amp works with geetar plugged in. :barscarf:

So buy (or borrow) one or preferably two ECC83 / 12AX7'S .
Decent brands are JJ Sovtek, Tung Sol RI, Mullard RI, These valves will be much better quality than those fitted in your amp at the factory.

If they hiss or have white noise send 'em back to the supplier.

Modulus Amps / Watford Valves are good but still see if u can get em cheaper local or online , not Ebay / Amazon as they will often be dodgy shite / unbranded MIC crap.

https://modulusamplification.com/12ax7- ... 3082-p.asp

https://www.watfordvalves.com/search.as ... eup&page=1

The 3 pre amp ECC83 vales will be on one side of the amp, one covered with metal shield, 2 closest to the edge are the ones to swap out , the power valves don't have shields just retaining pins.

The valves on the left V1 & V2 are the ones to swap out, V1 first & switch the amp back on.

http://www.voxshowroom.com/uk/amp/ac15c1_hood.html

Theres 9pins on these valves, with a space on one side to match up withe socket bases, slowly twist em out by swaying from side to side. Make sure you install 'em the right way round again!

Could well be especially if there are any Power Grid Lines, Masts or Mobile Phone Boosting Towers close by.

Also, it could be effected by the quality of the electrical wiring in your house.

Fuccccckkk! Seriously That IS a (Oz Accent here!) "Fuckin' Beaut Mate!"

Image

For what It's Worth My Advice / Suggestion is:

Buy it First... And then tell her! (Say it was an Impulse Buy... :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:

OR " Even better a Pure Master Stroke (in your Cunning plan)! Buy Your Good Lady Something VERY Nice Indeed.... That's (a) Take Her Mind off the Guitar and (b) Balance Things Out (*) OR Even Better...If you do buy the guitar... Buy Her Something Nice at the same time, so they are both delivered on the Same Day, so you can say " It's been A Difficult Year Love etc and I Figured We Both Deserve A Treat"...

She may give you Grief and Stop any Booty for a while... BUT

a) You will have Beauty
and
b) You Will HAVE That Beauty!

OR

She'll "Know" What you've done - BUT just stick to your story, plead your innocence and Stick with your story!

Either way.... You Will HAVE That Beauty!

Sneaky Yes! But very VERY Workable. :D
