Serious Question - Can we win the league?

Post by Gunnersaurus »

With the imminent arrival of Sanchez who is a genuine class act plus the basis of a good side when fit, do you think we could compete for the big prize with one or two more additions which look to be in danger of happening?

Ignore any hatred for the manager, do you think we have the players capable of winning it after tasting a bit of success last year?

Not without a proper DM.

We are still two world class players short of at the minute. Sort out a defensive midfielder and a world class central defender and we have a bloddy good chance

No, I think we are still too far behind & Chelski are doing good business. Its going to be 6 very strong teams next season.

Sign a strong midfielder in the mould of

Blaise Matuidi, Javi Martinez, Roman Neustadter or Lars Bender (matuidi my preferred)

With decent cover at GK, LB, RB,

Then it will be interesting to say the least .......

Without the above - I'm not sure

this.

plus our tactics need to be way way better. we need to a) have them and b) change them within a game.

plus we need to stop playing talented players out of position and also stop carrying out of form 'stars' - like wilshire.

realistically, sanchez plus two quality players gives us a top four place - van gaal is yet to watch phil jones, cleverly, carrick and smalling train. he's in for a big shock there.

its going to be between us and merseyside for 4th.

You cant say ignore your hatred for the manager if you want honest answers :? Forget about personal issue's with the c*nt and you are still left with a tactically woefully inept manager, who has no grasp of a plan b (a good plan A for that matter  ) and who doesn't know how to use substitutions - these are all crucial components in a title winning team so I would say that we have no chance of winning the league :(

Yet Wenger won the league 3 times.

Yeah but football has got vastly more tactical now than it was then and it is showing wenker up big time  Back in the day we could send our team out to play ball and they would play the opposition off the park - nowadays managers are coming up with systems and formations simply created to stop the opposition playing (last nights game is a case in point). When that happens our manager has to be able to re-evaluate his system and alter his tactics accordingly and le cock cannot do that.
Lastly, and you cant blame finances for this, but wenker has changed our team from a strong powerful team to a bunch of lightweights (often deadweights  ) - he scrapped what was successful in favour of a system that has never and will never work in engerland

Our name's on the trophy :barscarf:

On a serious note in terms of being good enough I don't think our squad is far off at all. There are a few positions we unquestionably need to strengthen - RB and GK obviously, depth at CB. Ideally also a DM and a CF who actually suits the system instead of Giroud. But we are thereabouts, none of the sides (including City) scare me witless.

Just don't think we have the tactical versatility for it. We can't expect to keep winning all season with everyone staying fit and on form, but we don't have it in us to change it up to grind out results when we're struggling. In recent seasons it's been a case of when it rains it pours, too often we have gone on terrible runs for 5 or 6 games without stopping the rot. Obviously our tactical ineptitude and mental fragility is shown up in the one-off big games too, although hopefully the latter will be alleviated by the FA Cup win.

Just a shame that we couldn't get it together for the season last year, it was up for grabs.
