It was phenomenal play from Braithwaite but simply put number 8s don't put four good balls in a row out of the ground. Don't send down four length balls with no variety.Nos89 wrote:Don't know why Stokes is at fault, where did those sixes come from? No one expected Braithwaite to smack 4 sixes on the bounce as he hadn't shown that form throughout the whole tournament. They were mighty hits. Just hope Leicester and Spurs capitulate in the same manner as England did.

Perhaps he was scared of going leg-side/wide, and as such played it safe, but the end result (esp. in a slog-fest like T20) is if you bowl military-medium, length balls you run the risk of being hoyed out of the ground.
Hindsight is wonderful, but perhaps saving Jordan for the final over so he could York the piss out of the stumps would have been a better bet.

Re: The Cricket Thread
England were only in that position because Jordan bowled out of his skin in the penultimate over.
You have every right to expect a frontline Test and limited overs bowler to be able to concede 17 runs or less bowling to a number 8 outside of a power play in a relatively low scoring match.
I'm not a fan of the wankfest over Bowlers like Dernbach chucking down 4 or 5 slower balls an over and being automatically hailed as a good death bowler but Christ you need some variety and nous.

Re: The Cricket Thread
I've just heard the sad news that England and Nottinghamshire batsman, James Taylor, has been forced to retire immediately due to serious illness.
He has been diagnosed with the same condition which cut short Fabrice Muamba's career.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Not sure why James' Taylor news is being reported as if its a great tragedy. This is a huge positive for the guy, lucky that they found out about his heart condition before he had a Muamba like incident...
They should be celebrating the medical advances that found this rare heart disorder before it killed him. Sod his cricket career, he's got a greater gift now than had he carried on with a cricket career which could have ended his life.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Fair play to Hayles; he's seen it through to lunch on 38. From 49-0 to 50-odd for three will have Sri Lanka pleased.

Bairstow’s been given out and has immediately reviewed…
NOT OUT!
England would have been up shit creek if he’d have gone. England 148-5.
