Unfortunately it is exactly who they are after. All these foreign based streaming services play copyrighted material but the vast majority do not pay the copyright owner. That is already illegal in Oireland but the government are going to try and make it illegal for foreign based providers to be accessed by people in Oireland.

It's not a case of the authorities here blocking them. They will initially try to licence them here and make it illegal for punters to access them without paying for the licence.OneBardGooner wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 5:09 pmIt shouldn't affect the Drogon Boyz in England, Wales and Scotland Roddaz... Thing is such Providers are set-up outside of UK/Europe and to the best of my understanding designed and run by some very clever savvy kiddies who usually either stay step by step with those trying to stop them, but often are 3 steps ahead; thank the fuck.

Yep, I think so.
It seems to be streaming sites offering live sports and showing Hollywood movies they are going after initially. Been on the cards for years really but now they are Figuring out how to legally make us pay for some type of licencing or be prosecuted.

Can't and won't happen. Drogon TV are based in the USA so no-one other than the Federal Government over there can do anything about it.
It's just a website basically with multiple servers around the world. They keep a low profile, don't advertise their service and operate on word of mouth only.
Don't panic, Drogon and most other overseas providers will be fine.

Horseshit. Where Oireland is concerned you are completely wrong. I work in a govt dept and I have it first hand the government here are already working on how to either block them or make people pay a licence fee. Even the media here have got wind of it: https://www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle ... 47274.htmlClummo99 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 11:18 amCan't and won't happen. Re: Streaming Advice
Is a VPN any help here? I try to have mine turned on as much as possible but 9 times out of 10 the channel won’t load until I turn it off - the on the rare occasion it will work with it on. No idea why that is.
How do the providers know what I’m streaming? Can they see the app in use so know I’m watching something legit like sky go or Netflix as opposed to watching something Knock Off Nigel set me up with?
Didn’t think they had that level of detail. The fact I can’t VPN it is not great is it?

Depends on the vpn service you use and which server you're connecting too mate.rodders999 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 1:15 pmIs a VPN any help here? If you're using a free service then your speed will be crap and the stream won't load or buffer.
When you use a vpn your ISP can only see the address of the server you're connected to. They absolutely cannot see where your connection goes to after that without getting court orders to force the vpn provider to supply your connection logs.
There are no laws governing vpn services to keep connection logs of their users but most do as they sell that data on to third parties. There are a number that don't and have proven the fact in US courts. Private Internet Access is one such service.
