Going away in Europe.....
Going away in Europe.....
Don't want this to be yet another....."we ain't gonna finish 4th thread" and it also isn't specifically about Marseille.....
It was just to say that I've been following Arsenal home and away through good times and bad for 36 years now but I still get as excited about a trip away in Europe now as I did when visiting Brussels in 1980. Just wish they'd been more of them!
I've needed to pick and choose a bit which means that I've missed out on some potentially scary trips (Rome, Belgrade etc) as well as some classics (Inter Milan, Real Madrid....).
But I had a brilliant time in Marseilles. As I did in Barcelona. As I did in Milan. It's not just about the match, but about the flight. About being able to sing "who to be a gooner" in a foreign airport or metro station rather than Bolton or Wigan.....
Point is that if you haven't been to one before then seriously think about going to Athens. Or maybe Munich or Cyprus or wherever it is in the next round. Who knows how long we'll stay in the competition this season. Who knows how long it will be before we qualify for the CL again.

Re: Going away in Europe.....
Couldn't agree more. A Euro away day should be on everyones list of things to do. I know a lot of people are broke at the moment but it's well worth saving up for be it this season or next (I still think we'll be playing in Europe next year and not the Championship ).MK Gould wrote:Don't want this to be yet another....."we ain't gonna finish 4th thread" and it also isn't specifically about Marseille.....

Even a little town like Braga was great fun last year although that was probably helped by the strike the day after the game. This piss up and kick about in the square was brilliant until the cops took our ball
Mertesacker & Rosicky mate. Gus, go independently. Cheaper & much more fun! Athens is great, had an awesome trip there last time.Henry Norris 1913 wrote:nice one mateDan_85 wrote:Henry Norris 1913 wrote:has anyone got any pictures from the away end?

Was just thinking that tha last 2 I was at were Rome and Braga. Talk about polar opposites! In Rome we had the drink ban* on the day of the game followed by a police escort to the game where we had nut-job Roma fans either side of us chucking all sorts of crap at us and a high glass barrier to seperate us.
In Braga we walked to the stadium following the cops after a day long session. Under the stand there was only crowd control barriers seperating the 2 sets of fans.
*When I say ban, it was easy enough to get beer if you bought a pizza or some such in a bar/restaurant.
