Previous Leicester v Arsenal matches

Only 1 springs to mind the 3-3 at Filbert Street with DB10 getting a quite sublime hat-trick, but it still wasn't enough to win the game as we let in a sloppy injury time equalizer

Pretty sure they nabbed a last minute draw off the Invincibles too. Thieving bastards.

1998-99 we got a last minute equaliser from Stephen Hughes at Filbert Street , but their goal from Heskey was contentious as he came back onto the pitch following an injury without the ref's permission and went through to score. Not that I am bitter but if that goal had been disallowed , as it should have been, we would actually have retained the Premiership. Ashley Cole was sent off at Leicester in the Invincible season and they got a last minute equaliser. Also remember a 3-0 win there about 2000 when "There's only one Graham Barrett" came on as a sub.

A lad I work with is mates with Graham Barrett. Said he was devestated when it didn't work out at Arsenal for him. By all accounts (well, my workmate anyway! ) growing up GB was one of the best young players of his generation in Oireland. Saw him make a subs appearance once I think, maybe against Southhampton or Sunderland in 1999 or 2000...? He retired through injury aged only 27. :(

He played for shamrock Rovers but not for their first team on many occasions. When arsenal reserves played in Tallaght v rovers a few years back Arsenal wanted to make a presentation of a signed shirt to Barrett before the game..unfortunately Barrett or the stadium announcer were not aware of this so Neil Banfield was left standing on the touchline with the shirt in his hand when the game started.

yes, they did. was it dickov? anyway, we didn't play well but had the chance to go 2 up. gilberto-volley-keeper-post.

the 3-3 was great although the ref shouldve blown up at 3-2

and remember the game before we played lens in sept 1998.

"were all going on a european tour, european tour.
you're all going on chesterfield tour, chesterfield tour"

:D :barscarf:

It was the annoying Craig Hignett that scored the equaliser in injury time. It wasnt a great game from what I recall, Gilberto's goal was very good, seem to remember Aliadiare missing a sitter at 1-0 as well.

hignett, tart. I think we had one of our goons at the back. Was one of those many games where we went dropped deeper and invited more pressure.

The last game I went to at Leicester was 94/95 season at Filbert St. I was given the ticket by Mark Draper(ex player) via a friend at that time. Was sat next to Tommy Johnson (ex player) and mostly Leicester fans throughout the game. It was the first and last time Iv'e watched a game sat with the other fans and I hated it. We lost 2-1 .

Only 1 game for me....
January 1975, Leicester 2 Arsenal 1
My first ever away game, stood on the terracing in front of the main stand with my Arsenal silk scarf around my neck, wondering why these evil looking blokes were grimacing at me even though I was only 12!!
Never forget a small band of Arsenal fans in the corner with a Union Jack attached to the back of the stand with ARSENAL across the middle.
We were shit, Trevor Ross scored, a day you never forget as a footie fan :barscarf:

On a serious note I don't feel like those sorts of subs have ever really worked for us. I can understand wanting to bring more defensive players on but not to the extent that you end up sacrificing shape completely. Even missing Vieira and Henry a team like that shouldn't be resorting to siege defending to see a game out at a side like Leicester, should have far better game management skills.

I remember Wenger bringing on Cygan to play left mid against United at home in the Invincibles season and being baffled. Sure enough he was all at sea there, our shape went completely and they created a goal from down our left.

One of my 'in the wrong end' experiences was up at the old Filbert Street when Peter Taylor was manager there and getting them relegated with Ade Akinbiyi. I remember the Arsenal fans cheering him when he got the ball and singing There's Only One Peter Taylor

The problem for me was that I was sat next to a complete fucking nutter declaring his hate of 'Cockneys' and we went 2-0 up at a canter to make him even more fucking irate (think Gio Van Bronckhorst scored a rare goal). Had to politely clap when Leicester pulled one back.

Was in 2001/02 I think. A mate of mine who supported Leicester said "don't worry you'll be fine with me"......had to sit in fucking silence through the whole lot :D

I remember that one, pires had a great game that night.

also a match up there in the mid eighties, we were top of the league and smashed them 4-0 or something. great little away end, low roof, close to the pitch. good times :barscarf:

the "king power" stadium is a souless bowl, filbert street was probably the best non london away day.
