Arsenal summer plans: Twelve players set to depart this summer
Coach Mike takes a deep dive into first team exits at Arsenal this summer
As the Premier League season winds down to what has been a fairly inevitable finish for a while, I thought that I would discuss the club's summer plans, writes Coach Mike.
Potential out’s:
Firstly, I think it’s important to state that I believe Mikel Arteta doesn’t just want players on the bench who are helpful in certain game states, but true competition on a weekly basis for the player in their position.
Here is my take on who will be leaving:
Kieran Tierney:
Back to Celtic. I’d love to keep him for the last year of his contract. Such a reliable and trustworthy player who has often proven to be one of the first choices from the bench when trying to close out a game. Because of his professionalism, I’m sure the club will let him choose. Wonderful way to end his career by scoring at Southampton
Oleksander Zinchenko:
Much like KT, based on game state, I think that he is a plus to our squad. The same respect will be given to him. As we are perhaps the most exciting club in Europe to be a part of right now, players like Zinchenko might want to stay to win. I do think that he will leave, however, as he has spent too much of his career on the bench.
Takehiro Tomiyasu:
If we do release him, they won’t get much money for him due to his injury record. I feel sure that they will keep him so that he can prove his financial worth and also because if we release him, we will only want somebody just like him to replace him. A wonderful defender who is capable of breaking into the starting 11.
Raheem Sterling:
Sent back to Chelsea. Will be an expensive problem for them. I had no idea his level had plummeted when he came. Was once one of the best wingers in the world.
Nuno Tavares:
If he could defend with consistency, and if we played wingbacks, then he might be an Arsenal player. He can’t and we don’t so he will be sold or loaned. Statistically had a very impressive season at Lazio so it might raise some cash.
Jorginho:
Seems to be off to Brazil. Proven to be a very good squad signing for Arsenal.
Sambi Lokonga
Like Tavares, he’s just not quite the level. Players like Sambi will probably have wished for a busy international summer so that they would have a chance in preseason to show that they are at the level. I don’t think he will get that chance though.
Fabio Vieira:
Of all the loanees, he’s the one who is at the level. The issue is his desire to impact games consistently. There is such a stark difference in his desire to that of Odegaard. I think he makes the club nervous and they will look to upgrade and make money from him.
Reiss Nelson:
A career derailed by injury just as he starts to impact. Unfortunately, not been given the opportunity to prove that he might well be at our level but much like Nketiah, Arsenal have moved past him,
Marquinhos:
Will be loaned back to Brazil for the last six months of his contract. Perhaps the strangest signing we’ve made under Arteta.
Neto:
Back to Bournemouth
Karl Hein:
Out of contract
