Arsenal sign Christian Norgaard from Brentford on two-year deal

Norgaard has joined the Gunners for an initial £10m fee from the Bees

Arsenal have completed the signing of Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard on an initial two year deal, with the option for a third.

Denmark international Norgaard has joined for an initial £10m, potentially rising to £15m in performance-related add-ons.

Norgaard made 196 appearances for Brentford, including captaining the Bees and helping them win promotion from the Championship in 2021.

The former Fiorentina midfielder becomes Arsenal's third summer signing, following Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi.

Norgaard cited playing Champions League football as a key factor in switching from west to north London.

"I've just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford," the 31-year-old said.

"There's always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.

"Now I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It's a childhood dream and something I didn't think would be possible. So it's something I'm really, really happy about."

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said "We’re delighted to welcome Christian to Arsenal. He is an international player with a wealth of experience of the Premier League. He has proven leadership skills and a strong character which will be invaluable to our squad.

"He is a strong midfielder with excellent tactical awareness and versatility. He also has physical presence and intelligence which will give us added depth and balance. Christian will bring a lot to the group both on and off the pitch, and we’re excited to start working with him in this next chapter of his career. We welcome Christian and his family to Arsenal.”

Sporting Director Andrea Berta, said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Christian Norgaard to the club. He has been a consistent high performer in the Premier League and brings many qualities to our club.

"He is a leader, and a player with high tactical intelligence and versatility who will have a very positive impact to the squad.  We welcome Christian to Arsenal.”
