Arsenal forwards Alessia Russo and Beth Mead both found the net for the first time at Euro 2025 on Sunday night.
England thrashed Wales 6-1 in St Gallen to secure a second place finish in Group B, as the Netherlands lost 5-2 to France.
Georgia Stanway put the Lionesses in front from the penalty spot before Russo set up Ella Toone to double England’s lead- although Toone’s initial shot being blocked on the line meant for no Russo assist.
Toone then turned provider to set up Lauren Hemp before Russo scored England’s fourth on the stroke of half time with a simple close-range finish.
Substitute Beth Mead’s clever footwork and finish was followed by an assist for Aggie Beever-Jones, after Hannah Cain netted a consolation for Wales.
England will face a Sweden side containing in-form Stina Blackstenius on Thursday in the quarter-finals.
Victoria Pelova found the top corner in the Netherlands’ defeat to France, with the Arsenal midfielder netting her second of the tournament to equalise in the first half.
The Dutch led 2-1 at half-time but conceded four second half goals, with Pelova and Daphne van Domselaar’s tournament coming to an end.
