It was announced this afternoon that Mariona Caldentey has been named PFA WSL Fans’ Player of the Month, another accolade to add to the many she has received since bursting onto the English football scene.

The Spaniard, who joined Arsenal from Barcelona last summer, has had a huge impact on the Gunners this season, her versatility on the pitch, and experience always shining through.

She spoke to The Gooner Fanzine at the Sobha Realty Training Centre today, about how honoured she feels to be acknowledged for her game.

“It is amazing of course like when you feel everyone recognises your work or your effort.”

Ever humble, she went on to praise those around her:

“I always said, like most important is the people you work with, your staff, your teammates, it’s the ones that have to recognise you and valuate you, so I mean it’s nice of course and I’m happy with that.”

Arsenal Women take on Lyon in their UWCL semi-final tomorrow and Mariona’s experience, not only in the Champions League, but against this opponent, will be invaluable as the team prepare for this huge clash.
