Time to join the real world Arsene

Is the manager really happy with the majority of his squad?

Time to join the real world Arsene

Vermaelen: A couple more of this type please

Another season without a trophy, with just the consolation (hopefully, as I am writing this before the Citeh v Spuds game) of a third place finish and automatic Champions League qualification. Great if we do qualify, but unless Wenger stops deluding himself, and existing in a fairytale world without nasty Allardyce type teams, Arsenal may as well not bother to try next season, as I cannot see how anything will be different from the past five.

We all enjoy the pleasing football Arsenal can play, but Wenger has got the balance of the team all wrong and it does make me wonder if he just got lucky with some of the players he inherited in his early years at the club. What else can explain the ridiculous keeper situation, the complete lack of fighting spirit, the lack of leadership and work rate coupled with that desire not to lose at any cost?

Wenger may not like the way some teams play and neither do I, especially when a young lad sustains a broken leg, but unfortunately that is the real football world Arsenal exist in. I am not saying that we should resort to such tactics but the team must be capable of looking after itself. Yes play good football, pass and move, score great goals, but crucially when the chips are down a winning team must be able to 'roll the sleeves up' and get stuck in.

Until we have some signings which give the team a solid platform, and allow our flair players to play and not contribute much physically, we will continue to under achieve, which is such a source of frustration to most of us supporters who can all see this failing in the current team / squad. Please Arsene, if you do intend to stay on for another three or five years, buy some 'metal' for the side. A capable, strong keeper, another Vermaelen or two, a ball winner / leader in the middle, and a tough Drogba-type striker.

I fear the worse when I read that Wenger is fairly happy with the squad and he MAY buy two or three players maximum. I am sorry Arsene but that is not enough and despite all you have achieved for the club, I fear you are outstaying your welcome. Please prove me wrong and let's see a summer full of surprises, and a team that might actually win something next season.
