Mikel Arteta will miss the Manchester City game after contracting Covid

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will miss the Premier League match against Manchester City on New Years Day - after the 39-year-old tested positive for Covid for a second time.

Arteta first tested positive in March 2020, prompting the cessation of all football matches in England as the country headed into its first lockdown later that month.

Arsenal, who have won their past four league games, are fourth in the table, 12 points behind leaders City.

"Mikel is isolating in line with Government guidelines and we wish him well," the club said in a statement on Wednesday morning.

Calum Chambers, Cedric Soares, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles missed the 5-0 victory over Norwich on Boxing Day after also testing positive.

Assistants Albert Stuivenberg and Steve Round will take charge at Emirates Stadium.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has not been selected for the last four games after the captaincy was taken away from him will also miss the City match.

The 32-year-old is in Dubai with the Gabon squad preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations, with his long-term Arsenal future uncertain.

Everyone at the Gooner Fanzine wishes Mikel Arteta all the best.
