Premier League 2 Play-off: Manchester City U21 3-2 Arsenal - Extra time heartbreak for Young Guns
Arsenal's U21 side suffered an extra time defeat against Manchester City U21s at Joie Stadium
Arsenal U21s season ended after goals from Khayon Edwards and Louie Copley were cancelled out by a second half comeback by PL2 first placed Manchester City, who scored three goals after the 75th minute without response at Joie Stadium.
Mehmet Ali’s side were quick out the traps as Khayon Edwards finished coolly in the 45th second of the game with Charles Sagoe Jr getting the assist to make it 1-0.
Louie Copley seemed to have sealed a victory to make it 2-0 with a trademark finish in the 48th minute when lifting the ball over the onushing Spike Brits in the Manchester City net.
Charlie Gray could have grabbed a goal for City in the 74th minute but for an offside flag that was raised for obstruction on Khari Ranson, as the shot was fired in from Manchester City’s number six.
However, City started their comeback when Ashton Muir converted the home side's first in the 76th minute to make it 2-1.
It had not gone unnoticed thatCity took Liverpool to extra-time in their first match of the Premier League 2 play-offs and did the same to Arsenal after Lakyle Samuel’s powerful header in the 93rd minute beat Ranson, who was rooted to the spot.
This Arsenal U21 side had been here before in another quarter-final that went to extra time this season, against City’s rivals, Manchester United, in the FA Youth Cup.
On that evening at the Emirates, Jaydan Dejon Kamason grabbed the Red Devils' equaliser in the 84th minute which saw United wini the gamen extra time, after a Bendito Mantato goal.
The inevitable occured on Saturday evening when City’s comeback was completed by former West Ham United striker Divin Mubama who scored the winner to make it 3-2 and ended Arsenal’s season with a powerful half volley - ensuring the Young Guns suffered a late heart-break in extra-time for the second time this season.
