Two assists from rockstar Chloe Kelly - the second to set up Arsenal’s young star Michelle Agyemang as the Lionesses come from two down to level. Come on England!! Get in!!!! ???????
— Layth (@laythy29) July 17, 2025
In all the drama it was actually Arsenal's Beth Mead with the assist for England's second goal scored by fellow Gooner Michell Agyemang not Chloe Kelly. Although she can claim a pre-assist...what a game!

Thanks for reading on a dramatic evening that saw Arsenal's outstanding contingent to help valiant England to reach the semi-finals after staging a thrilling comeback against Sweden
What a match. It's onto the semi-finals next Tuesday where England will face Italy who are ranked 11th in the world.
To confirm: England have reached the last four at Euro 2025 after beating Sweden 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in extra time.
Jennifer Falk saved four. Hannah Hampton saved two. Sweden missed three. England are in the last four. Somehow!
Oh my word!!!!!
And Sweden miss!!!! England are through!!!!!!
Lucy Bronze scores!!!!
Hannah Hampton's saved it!!!!!! Incredible!!!
This for Sweden to win....
Clinton has her penalty saved....
And she's missed!!!!!!
Right. Now it's all on this next penalty. Sweden's keeper Falk is to take their spot kick
Get in!!! Well done Chloe Kelly
And Chloe Kelly scores
Chloe Kelly steps up...
England have to score
Sweden score to make it 2-1 with a penalty each remaining
Greenwood has her penalty saved.
Three pens each. The score is 1-1. This is unbearable
Sweden hit the post!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my word!!!!
Oh dear. Beth Mead has her penalty saved....
Sweden score. 1-1 after two pens each
James has her penalty saved by Falk
Hampton saves!!!!!!!
Russo scores! 1-0 to England
Credit to both sides for such a superb clash...now for the dreaded spot-kicks
And that's the final whistle after 120 intense minutes with the score England 2-2 Sweden. Penalties to follow...
A tired Russo fires wide on 120 minutes
Lucy Bronze doing her impression of Rambo after strapping her own leg up with months remaining
Three minutes added time
Sweden deep in England territory but the Lionesses are holding out
Leah Williamson is forced off after landing awkwardly on her ankle. Niamh Charles replaces the Arsenal and England legend
Half time extra time. England 2-2 Sweden. 15 minutes from a penalty shoot out...
Thankfully Williamson is now back on her feet and running again.
Leah Williamson lands awkwardly on her ankle. Let's hope it's not too serious. Not least for Arsenal's forthcoming WSL campaign after the Lioness and Gunners legend had a lengthy spell out two seasons ago after a serious knee injury.
Coming up to 100 minutes of play this evening. England in the ascendancy now. Not sure I can take penalties...
FYI: Rockstar Chloe Kelly graces the front cover of our current Arsenal Women's Gooner Fanzine. Just sayin'...
And we're off for the first half of extra time with the score England 2-2 Sweden. psychologically the Swedes must be struggling...all the momentum has to be with the Lionesses
FT: England 2-2 Sweden. Two goals in 103 seconds ensure the Lionesses pull back a two goal deficit. 30 minutes extra time to come. What a match
In all the drama it was actually Arsenal's Beth Mead with the assist for England's second goal scored by fellow Gooner Michell Agyemang not Chloe Kelly. Although she can claim a pre-assist
What a game. What a comeback from England. But there's still time for more. Otherwise it's 30 minutes extra time. What a prospect
87 - SAVE - Another superb save from Hampton after Esme Morgan's sloppy pass across the backline saw Janogy launch what would have been a matchwinner
103 seconds between both England goals as the mighty Lionesses pull back two goals to make it 2-2
Three caps two goals from Arsenal's young star. What a prospect
GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL
GOAL - 79 - England 1-2 Sweden - Lucy Bronze pulls a goal back for England after superb work by Chloe Kelly - can the Lionesses grab an equaliser?!
England grab a goal back through Lucy Bronze after super work from Chloe Kelly!!
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL
Lauren Hemp is replaced by Arsenal's Chloe Kelly as England hunt a foothold in the game with barely 10 minutes remaining
Former Gooner Lina Hurtig comes on
Looks like Chloe Kelly is about to come on
Arsenal's young star Michelle Agyemang and Beth Mead replace Carter and Stanway while Morgan comes on for Toone
Sarina Wiegman throws the dice and makes a triple substation with 20 minutes remaining
Have to say Arsenal's Stina Blackstenuis has been absolutely outstanding for Sweden tonight
A little over half an hour for holders England to try and stay in the tournament
62 - Lundkvist off for Holmberg
54 - Another superb save from Hannah Hampton to help England stay in the game. Just. This time the Chelsea keeper denies Arsenal's Stina Blackstenius. Mary who?
Hemp gets on the end James' cross but her header flies wide
A poor ball from Lauren James there as England looked to sweep forward as the Lionesses lose possession. Frustrating
England moving the ball around better. As is their movement on and off the ball....
I was at Brighton back in 2022 when England came from behind at the Euro 2022 quarter-final - however Wingman's side were only 1-0 down to Spain on that never-to-be forgotten night
48 - Excellent through ball from Hemp to Toone, but the United forward was deemed marginally offside
And we're off again. Can England pull back two goals? Not on their first half display that's for sure.
To be honest I'm not too bothered about what the former Arsenal boss says. Never warmed to him. His sacking couldn't come soon enough after the 5-2 humiliation in Munich. Proved to be the right decision from the moment Renée Slegers took over. Champions League winners anyone?
Ellen White rightly says Sweden have been "smothering" England in the first half
HALF TIME: England 0-2 Sweden - A massive 45 coming up for Sarina Wingman's Lionesses after being overrun in the first half by the impressive Swedes
45- SAVE - A superb block by Hampton who dive stop her left showing excellent footwork and strong hands to palm Rolfo's effort there. Could have easily been 3-0 to Sweden
One minute of time added on
Hemp combative there to win possession along the right flank but a lack of England shirts in the box for the final ball
This from the BBC: England have had more possession in the opening half an hour - 53.9% to Sweden's 46.1% Sweden have registered three attempts on target - and scored from two of them
Lauren Hemp receives a blow to the face after colliding with Lindqvist
A long ball over the top is cleared by an onrushing Hannah Hampton
It's just past the half hour mark and a vibrant Sweden side currently lead England 2-0
Ella Toone has a shot blocked as England attempt to claw back the deficit
24 - GOAL - England 0-2 Sweden. Arsenal's Stina Blackstenius powers into the box after outpacing Jess Carter before firing across Hannah Hampton and into the net to make it 2-0. Oh dear. But all credit to the Swedes. And Arsenal's 2025 Champions League winner Stina.
Our very excellent AWFC editor Freddie Cardy is currently on his hols enjoying a well earned break (hence yours truly doing the Live Blog tonight) He tells me he is attempting to watch the match on a train with very patchy wi-fi right now...
20 minutes gone and England have steadied the ship after a ferocious opening from Sweden. Where are you watching this match? Let us know!
FYI: Asllani's strike was her 50th goal for her country - superb from the 35-year-old who will play for London City Lionesses again next season. Looking forward to catching her when they play AWFC at the Emirates
Just had another quick look at Hemp's shot that hit the bar - Swedish keeper Falk actually gets a touch to Hemp’s shot to prevent the ball from going into the net. What a superb save
Don't forget you can watch this game on BBC One right now. (But don 't forget to second screen with the Gooner's Live Blog of course.)
5 - CHANCE - Lauren Hemp hits the bar after England sweep forward. What a lively opening. Lionesses unlucky there. But wait the Swedes break quickly as Blackstenius' crosses into the middle. Fortunately for Wingman's side there were no yellow shirts in the box to slot home. What a thrilling start
Oh my word, Arsenal's Stina Blackstenius nearly doubled the Swedes' lead but for a superb last gasp sliding block by Gunners teammate, the legendary Leah Williamson. England need to wake up - and fast
1:48 GOAL - Sweden score against England after a poor ball by Jess Carter as No9 Asllani drills the ball low across Hannah Hampton - the worst possible start for the Lionesses!
The winner of tonight's clash at Stadion Letzigrund, Zurich, will face Italy in the last four on Tuesday
And we're off! FYI: The Lionesses aiming to reach sixth successive semi-final at major tournament...
Arsenal's Leah Williamson is of course England captain and shakes hands with Swedish counterpart Kosovare Asllani - with the respect between the pair tangible. Not long now until kick off
Next up are the national anthems....
Yes, we all remember the semi-final at Bramall Lane back in 2022 (I was there!) but it would be highly unlikely if the 4-0 scoreline was repeated tonight in Switzerland...
Never mind Ella Toone's confident pre-match talk, Peter Gerhardsson's Sweden are a huge obstacle for holders England to overcome. They have finished third at three of the past four World Cups and have reached the World Cup semi-finals five times. For good measure they also landed the silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro AND Tokyo Olympics. They certainly have pedigree
Sweden have made two changes to their starting XI with Hanna Lundkvist and Julia Zigiotti Olme switching in for Hanna Bennison and Smilla Holmberg. Sweden: Falk; Lundkvist, Bjorn, Eriksson, Andersson; Angeldahl, Asllani, Zigotti Olme; Rytting Kaneryd, Blackstenius, Rolfo Subs: Holmgren, Enblom, Sembrant, Nildén, Janogy, Hurtig, Jakobsson, Ilestedt, Wangerheim, Bennison, Holmberg, Blomqvist
First things first, the team news is in: Unsurprisingly Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman makes zero changes to the team that routed Wales 6-1 last time out. England: Hampton; Bronze, Williamson, Carter, Greenwood; Toone, Walsh, Stanway; James, Russo, Hemp Subs: Keating, Moorhouse, Charles, Mead, Le Tissier, Clinton, Morgan, Agyemang, Kelly, Beever-Jones, Park, Wubben-Moy
The scene is set for this eagerly-awaited quarter-final clash in Switzerland between the Lionesses and Sweden at Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich
