Mikel Arteta's Arsenal in Singapore to play first match since 2018

Prologue

The Gunners kick-off their preseason in Singapore on Wednesday, where they will face AC Milan.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is finally hoping to go one better after three consecutive runners-up spots in the Premier League, with the North London giants aiming to be in tip top shape come the opening games of the 2025-26 season.

With Manchester United and Liverpool away in the opening three weekends, sandwiched by a visit from newly-promoted Leeds, Arteta faces a tough task. Which is why the club have arranged a second match in Singapore, this time against fellow top flight side Newcastle United, followed by a flight to Hong Kong, where Arsenal will play Spurs.

It's fair to say the Gunners have been busy this month, with sporting director Andea Bertha drafting in four new players, after sealing deals for Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke for fees of around £123.5m in total.

The Gunners are also still attempting to get the tortuous £63.5m transfer of Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres over the line, while also signing Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.

However, Arteta, speaking during his first press conference after landing in Singapore, refused to be drawn on further potential new signings, saying: “There's still a long time in the window, and we are seeking. In terms of numbers, we are short, and we have to improve the depth and the quality of the squad.
