Arsenal are expecting long-term transfer target Viktor Gyokeres to join today (Monday, July 14).
The Gunners are set to reach agreement with Sporting for the £63.5m (73.5m Euros) signing of the former Coventry City striker.
The North Londoners sporting director Andrea Berta jetted to the Portuguese captital last week to personally lead negotiations with the Sporting hierachy.
The negotations were made easier when Gyokeres agent dropped demands for payment, with sources indicating a club-to-club deal for the Sweden forward is now in place with only minor details remaining.
It is understood there was a breakthrough in negotiations when Gyokeres' agent agreed to waive a commission he was due from the deal.
This lowered the asking price for Arsenal on the guaranteed money without Sporting receiving less than they wanted.
The offer, inclusive of add-ons, is an improvement on Arsenal's previous proposal of 70m euros (£60m) with Gyokeres, 27, already agreeing terms on a five-year deal.
It is understood Gyokeres will travel with the Gunners to Asia for their pre-season tour at the end of the week.
Arsenal had turned to Gyokeres after Benjamin Sesko and RB Leipzig reneged on a gentleman's agreement lodged last summer with the Gunners former technical director Edu, who subsequently departed the Emirates.
