Many Arsenal players have praised Renée Slegers throughout this season, about the confidence she has instilled within the squad since taking over as manager. She spoke to The Gooner on Friday about how she has done this:
“They are great people and great players, so making them see that, feel that and empowering them in the right moments, trying to put them in positions that gets the best out of them.”
She spoke about what it was like for her and the team coming off the back of two significant league defeats, and how the mood is now.
“We had a tough day of course, the day after Brighton, which we had to get through together as well. But then the way we’ve gone from there, and today the positivism, the constructive communication and smiling faces.”
Slegers explained what has helped the squad to turn their mindsets around ahead of a couple of big games.
“Put some music on, watch our goals back from the games we’ve played at the Emirates for example, getting back in the momentum as quickly as possible, and yeah, so confidence is important.”
Ahead of hosting Manchester United for the final gameday of the WSL, Slegers spoke excitedly about having one last game at the Emirates this season.
“It’s going to be amazing, it’s always an honour, privilege to be part of this and get to play our games at the Emirates with so many fans and such a great setting.”
She added, “I think it’s going to be beautiful weather… so I think it has all the elements for a fantastic day.”
Slegers finished by showing that she understands the importance and responsibility of getting a good result against United.
“We know it’s on us to deliver the product that we can deliver in the best way possible.”
Arsenal Women will host Manchester United on Saturday in a match that will decide who takes the second and third place spots in the WSL, kick off at 12:30pm.
