Arsenal Women are interested in signing 24-year-old goalkeeper Anneke Borbe after her departure from Wolfsburg, the Gooner Fanzine understands.
Borbe’s contract with the Bundesliga side expired this summer with the former Werder Bremen shot-stopper one of ten players to be released by Wolfsburg.
Sources have told the Gooner Fanzine that Arsenal, and more than one other club, will begin talks with Borbe next week.
The Germany Under-23 international became Wolfsburg’s first-choice goalkeeper midway through the season, preferred to Merle Frohms by head coach Tommy Stroot.
Stina Johannes has since signed from Eintracht Frankfurt to become Wolfsburg’s number one, with Frohms and Borbe both departing the Bundesliga runners-up.
Borbe made 10 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg after making her long-awaited league debut in February, with three outings in the Champions League including Wolfsburg’s quarter-final defeat to eventual finalists Barcelona.
The goalkeeper came through Werder Bremen’s academy, making her debut in 2017 at the age of 16. Borbe was part of the Werder side that won Germany’s second division in 2019/20, making eight league appearances in an invincible campaign.
