Goalscoring emergency requires undivided attention - Three elite strikers Arsenal should target

A lack of a prolific out-and-out striker threatens to undermine Arsenal's quest to bring home their first Premier League title in over two decades.

It's unfathomable how the management failed to address this issue last summer, but there's still time to make amends.

Time is ticking for the Gunners, with less than a fortnight left until the end of the January transfer window.

Mikel Arteta craves a new centre-forward, yet Josh Kroenke and Co have been radio-silent despite injuries to Bukayo Saka and Juan Jesus.

At-home fans using a VPN to help secure watching Arsenal live in Premier League action were frustrated as Aston Villa held us to a stomach-wrenching 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

Without strength in depth, Arteta had to improvise, deploying several players out of position, including Thomas Partey at right-back.

Unfortunately, it was an epic disaster. Former associate Unai Emery got back at us, with Ollie Watkins and Youri Tielemans hindering Arsenal's title pursuit.

Results have gone back and forth since the calendar year flipped to 2025, resulting in Liverpool's six-point le at the table's summit, not to mention a game in hand.

Had it not been for our set-piece prowess, we'd probably be out of the title picture by now, and it's up to the board to act on this problem before it's too late.

Just look at Nottingham Forest. Chris Wood has been their carrier this season despite entering the autumn of his career. But that's what a robust striker can do.

And that's what we desperately need. Options are currently at a premium. However, we should already focus on adding a new marksman in the summer transfer window.

Let's cut to the chase.

#3 Victor Osimhen

Osimhen's career at Napoli is over, plus there's reportedly a €75 million release clause that will come into effect at the end of the season.

He's currently on a season-long loan at Galatasaray. However, the Nigerian will likely return from Istanbul in June only to move on.

Despite his significant price tag, Osimhen could be what the doctor ordered for Arsenal, given his lethal scoring instincts and vast experience in top-flight football.

After all, his formidable form in 2022/23 inspired Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years.

Competition for Osimhen's signature could be fierce after Chelsea and Manchester United tried to prise him away from Naples last summer.

Potential obstacles aside, he'd be a gamble worth taking.

#2 Dusan Vlahovic

Vlahovic could sever ties with Juventus at the end of the season and is one of our long-term targets.

At 24, he's approaching his peak, hence a substantial €70m valuation.

He's been a polarising figure in Turin, largely thanks to his notorious problems with inconsistent performances.

But as a centre-forward, he needs service into the box, something Thiago Motta's men have often failed to deliver this season.

There's a downside, however. In addition to a patchy form, Vlahovic has been prone to injuries.

Perhaps teaming up with Martin Odegaard and Saka could unlock the Serb's full potential.

#1 Benjamin Sesko

Considered one of Europe's hottest prospects, Sesko is open to swapping RB Leipzig for Arsenal after turning down Manchester United's approach, reports the Daily Mirror.

Like the other two, the 21-year-old would come at a steep price. However, he's younger and has ample room for improvement.

Even now, there's a feeling he'd be an immediate upgrade on Kai Havertz, whose wasteful form in front of goal cost us a heartbreaking FA Cup elimination against the Red Devils.

Leipzig will unlikely negotiate Sesko's exit this winter, but a satisfying bid in the summer could convince the Bundesliga outfit to let their jewel embrace new pastures.
