Leah Williamson to miss start of season with knee injury

Arsenal’s vice-captain is set for a few weeks on the sidelines after “clean-up” knee operation

It has been discovered today that Leah Williamson will be out for a period of time after undergoing surgery on her knee.

Williamson sustained an injury to her right knee whilst on duty with the Lionesses during the Euros final back in July, and has required an operation to clean-up the issue.

Despite it being the same knee that she has previously torn her ACL on, the two injuries are not linked.

Williamson was seen at the Arsenal media day today (Wednesday) on crutches, and wearing a knee brace.

Arsenal have said that she will be “out for a period of weeks,” meaning she will miss the opening of the new WSL season.
