1-5 (Foord x2, Maanum, Mead x2)

Yes, you are reading that right. European champions Lyon 1, Arsenal 5. It’s Arsenal’s first ever win against the French giants.

Manu Zinsberger 7.5/10

Unable to keep yet another clean sheet, but now has plenty to celebrate on her 26th birthday- it’s Arsenal’s first ever win against Lyon!

Laura Wienroither 8/10

Came up against the dual threat of Horan and Malard on Lyon’s left side at times and was really tested by the European champions but played an important role in Arsenal’s victory- very reliable in one on one situations.

Lotte Wubben-Moy 8/10

Cut out some dangerous attacks, has been very reliable in her two starts following the injuries to Williamson and Rafaelle.

Steph Catley 8/10

Faced a far more stern test tonight than against Reading in Sunday’s 1-0 win, but has proved that she has many of the attributes of a good centre-back, slotting in really well alongside Wubben-Moy.

Katie McCabe 7.5/10

Another strong display from the combative left back in both defence and attack.

Kim Little (C) 8/10

Played an excellent through ball to pierce Lyon’s defence in the lead up to Foord’s first goal and dictated the midfield all evening long.

Lia Walti 7.5/10

Looked to put her side on the front foot and very rarely wasted a pass. An important figure in breaking up attacks.

Frida Maanum 9/10

Raised eyebrows for replacing Miedema for her first start of the season, starting in the number ten role. But Jonas Eidevall’s big call was an inspired decision- Maanum kept her composure and finished well to make it 2-0 to the Gunners! Her driving runs and link up play were simply game changing.

Beth Mead 9/10

Delivered an inch perfect pass for Foord’s goal, before scoring a fantastic free kick on the stroke of half time to really take the game away from the home side, striking the ball low into the corner past Endler! Her second goal was well taken and made it an unbelievable 5-1 to the Arsenal.

Stina Blackstenius 8/10

A physical presence upfront, allowing those playing off of her to thrive- her shot was saved with Maanum then scoring from the follow up.

Caitlin Foord 9/10

Gave Arsenal the lead with a left footed strike to finish off an exquisite team move! Lyon right back Jaurena was taken off before half time, certainly a response to the threat posed by Foord who linked up well with Maanum running in behind. Her second goal was magnificent, intercepting the ball on the edge of the box, steadying herself and then curling the shot home.

Jordan Nobbs (Sub, 78’) 7/10

Slotted into a front three in the closing stages.

Lina Hurtig (Sub, 80’) 7/10

Still waiting for her first start, and will have longer to wait if the current starters continue in this run of form! Will take on her former side Juventus later on in the group stage.

Vivienne Miedema (Sub, 80’) 6.5/10

Replaced Blackstenius for her 150th game in an Arsenal shirt.

Subs not used: Kaylan Marckese, Naomi Williams, Jen Beattie, Noelle Maritz, Katie Reid, Mana Iwabuchi, Michelle Agyemang.
