Arsenal gave sorry Chelsea the Blues after comfortably winning Tuesday evening's London derby at the Emirates. 

Captain Martin Odegaard scored twice as the lively Gunners kept their title bid alive by returning to the summit above Pep Guardiola's City.

Gabriel Jesus grabbed the Gunners third in a one-sided first half prior to Noni Madueke pulling a goal back late on.

Spread of goals is the sign of a great team, not just a good team...

The distribution of goals and assists throughout the team this season shows how thoroughly we work to a system and style of play that is innovative and (dare I say) future proof. Gabriel Jesus joined Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard on double-figures for goals last night.

Granit Xhaka got his sixth and seventh assists of the season too. As mentioned earlier in the year, the players tasked with defending the goal are also making a huge impact at the other end too - the players from defence and defensive midfield have over 30 goal involvements so far.

We have 15 different scorers this Premier League campaign and the exact same number of players that have contributed at least one assist. That's a sign of all-round play and a well executed plan.

Rotation might have come too late but we'll never know...

We can't get caught up in saying that the rotation of the squad last night should have been seen in April. Kiwior for Holding may have changed circumstances in the previous run of winless matches but a strong case could be made that last night's game was the easiest of that recent spell.

Aubameyang was woeful and for most of the first half he had Kante as his strike partner (some kind of weird tactic employed by the genius Lampard). I'm glad Martinelli was given a rest and I'd have definitely hooked Saka sooner than the 74th minute.

We don't have the deepest of squads and injuries have certainly taken their toll. Still, you could spend £600 million and have a bloated squad that look as bad as last night's opponents!

We must strike a balance between preservation and going for the kill...

Despite a 3-1 win over London rivals, I did notice a small theme of disappointment among Gooners coming out of the ground and on Twitter last night.

The feeling was that we could have handed Chelsea a much bigger beating if we'd have kept our foot on the gas. I completely understand this, and if any team deserved a walloping it would be them.

Yet I also see the need for Mikel Arteta to ensure his players have energy left at the end of a long pressurised season. In terms of the quality of opponent we can excuse the draw at Liverpool, yet you have to feel that one more goal when we had the upper hand would have killed off their challenge, and that certainly was the case at West Ham.

The London Stadium game is still the one giving me sleepless nights. The second half last night was poor, but we got the job done and have plenty of days to rest ahead of a massive match at Newcastle.

Our next two games are very hard and all we can ask of the boys is to be there if City clip up. Wins at Newcastle and at home to Brighton - games we lost last year - are vital.
