We should be proud Arsenal have four players picked for England
As a club we should be proud to have four players picked for the national side says Nick Manfredi
Thomas Tuchel has named Arsenal quartet Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke in his England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia next week.
Rice was of course a shoe in having been one of the first names on the England team sheet for several years.
Meanwhile, Lewis-Skelly will look to continue his stellar start to his international career having scored 20 minutes into his England debut against Albania back in March in what was Tuchel’s first game in the job.
Madueke will hope to score his first international goal. He may play a prominent role over the two games given Bukayo Saka’s absence through injury. I’m sure Arteta will be watching closely.
And lastly, Eze has been picked before even making his Arsenal debut. He scored his first international goal back in March, a few days after Myles broke his international duck.
Perhaps Eze will now find himself coming closer to the international fore having made the move to one of England’s elite clubs.
While fans often get frustrated with the volume and regularity of these international breaks, you can’t begrudge these players for wanting opportunities to represent their nation on a regular basis especially in a World Cup year.
As a club we should be proud to have four players picked for the national side.
We would likely have even more if it weren’t for injuries for Saka and Ben White who has reportedly spoken to Thomas Tuchel about his potential return to international football - meaning Arsenal has six full England internationals in Mikel Arteta's squad.
Ethan Nwaneri will no doubt hope to become the seventh in the coming months with a Three Lions call up for Max Dowman not million miles away should he continue his current trajectory.
There is a strong English core in the Arsenal squad, an exciting blend of Hale Enders and big money signings.
This is an exciting prospect with the World Cup less than 10 months away.
If England are to finally end our 60 years of pain, Arsenal will deserve a fair amount of credit.
