Arsenal’s bid to win their 14th FA Cup is set to resume on the weekend of June 27-28 as top level football returns this summer.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners were due to have played Sheffield United in the sixth round before the coronavirus pandemic gripped the planet in March, causing sport - and our way of life - to be put on hold.

Reports on Thursday confirmed the 2019-20 Premier League will begin again next month - with the news that the north Londoners match at the Etihad against Manchester City will be the first top flight game after lockdown eases.

The FA followed suit on Friday morning by revealing that the cup final will take place on Saturday, August 1 with the semi-finals now scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19.

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham said the dates are dependent on all safety measures being met with venues and kick-off times yet to be confirmed.

Bullingham said: "The health and wellbeing of players, staff and supporters remains our priority.

"The competition has been an integral part of the English football calendar for nearly 150 years, and we would like to thank the Premier League executive and clubs for their support in scheduling the remaining matches during this unprecedented time."

The Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals draw.
