Arsenal Women’s attendance record is set to be broken on Monday May 1 with over 55,000 fans set to watch their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi final second leg against Wolfsburg at Emirates Stadium.

Stamford Bridge currently holds the record for the highest Women’s Champions League crowd in the UK when 27,697 supporters watched Chelsea’s semi final against Barcelona last weekend, but Arsenal are aiming to not just smash that record but sell out the Emirates for the very first time.

Arsenal came back from two goals down to earn an impressive 2-2 draw away at German champions Wolfsburg on Sunday, with goals from Rafaelle and Blackstenius setting up the second leg perfectly when at one point it looked like the home side could put three or four past the Gunners.

Jonas Eidevall said after the match that the tie is “very much alive” thanks to Arsenal’s comeback. “Our mission when we came here is to get a result to take this game back to London and decide it there between two good teams”. Wolfsburg drew 1-1 at the Emirates in last season’s quarter final first leg before winning 2-0 at the Volkswagen Arena and then losing to Barcelona in the semis despite another 2-0 win in the second leg against the eventual runners-up.

Arsenal last reached the Champions League semi finals in 2013, when a crowd of less than 2,000 watched the Gunners lose 2-1 to Wolfsburg in the first leg in what became a 4-1 aggregate defeat for Arsenal. Even last season’s quarter final between the two sides at the Emirates was watched by roughly 5,000, so the club have done everything right to give themselves every chance of a sellout on Bank Holiday Monday.

If you can be at the Emirates on Monday to cheer on the Gunners, your support will be vital as they try to reach their second Champions League final, a first since 2007.
