Arsenal are aiming to make a long-term tranfser target their first signing of the summer.

The Gunners are looking to make Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz their first deal of the forthcoming transfer window.

The North Londoners have been showing strong interest in landing Luiz from Villa Park, with the Gunners back for Luiz - after being rebuffed in offering to swap their long-term target for Emile Smith Rowe.

However, the Premier League runners up have now been told they must pay £50m if they want the Brazilian.

Gunners sporting director Edu wants to tempt former Arsenal boss Unai Emery's resolve to keep Luiz by offering the asking price of £50m for Luiz.

Arsenal attempted tried to sign Luiz last summer - but two bids of £25million and £30m were turned down.
