Player Ratings: Arsenal 5-0 Leeds - Gyokeres and Timber grab two each as majestic Gunners run riot
Here's the View From The Armchair's Player Ratings after Arsenal dominated Leeds United
Arsenal thrashed sorry Leeds on glorious day at the Emirates as mercurial gifted wizard Eberechi Eze was unveiled before the home crowd prior to kick-off - much to the deoight amusement and delight of Gooners everywhere.
David Raya: 8/10 - super sharp reflexes, rapid distribution, inspired confidence that spread throughout the team from the off, another clean sheet, every bit as important as the goals we scored today.
Riccardo Calafiori: 7.5/10 - calm composed and busy down the left hand side, had a good solid game today, just loving the depth of this squad right now.
William Saliba: 8/10 - surely our Rolls Royce at the back is ready to sign a lifetime contract now? Another clean sheet as we go again against Liverpool at Anfield next week
Gabriel: 8/10 - showed a hunger to win absolutely everything all day, I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him in a game of tiddlywinks today.
Jurrien Timber: 9/10 - POTM performance. With the glanced header from the corner it’s one nil to the Arsenal, assist on the stroke of half time for 2-0. 56 mins it’s a toe poke from a corner for his second of the day, sad Leeds are being laid low here today at the Emirates.
Noni Madueke: 7.5/10 - preferred over Martinelli today, started on the left, before finding his natural home over on the right when Saka went off, subbed off for Dowman on 63 mins
Martin Zubimendi: 8/10 - our Basque Brawler still taking some time to acclimatise to the ferocity of the premier league, stamped his authority on the game the longer it went on, I have a feeling he will be an unsung hero this year.
Declan Rice: 7.5/10 - Trademark whipped corner for the assist with Timber's header for the opener. Probably time to parachute some more payments over to West Ham, they are gonna need it looking at the start they have had.
Martin Odegaard: 7.5/10 - playing his 200th game, it was a shame the skipper was forced into an early bath after he was subbed off with an injured shoulder on 37 minutes.
Bukayo Saka: 8/10 - lashed one into the top corner on the stroke of half time to make it 2-0 to see our Star Boy off the mark for the season. Saved for another day on 52 minutes as he clutches his left hamstring, let’s hope his injury is nothing too serious.
Viktor Gyokeres: 8.5/10 - chased, closed down, worked his socks off up front, got his reward on 48 minutes, sealed the deal in injury time with Arsenals fifth from the penalty spot. If you weren’t excited before kick off seeing Eze, you should be rightly chomping at the bit to see more of this now after a hugely enjoyable 5-0 nil to the Arsenal.
Substitutes:
Ethan Nwaneri: 8/10 - got the nod to enter the action on 37 minutes, slotted straight in and orchestrated every bit as well as our injured skipper.
Leandro Trossard: 8/10 - thought I might have seen the last of him at the Emirates before lo and behold a bit more dosh, and our Belgian silver fox is ready to bang in some more goals for us off the bench hopefully this season, bonus point for sticking around knowing game time might not be plentiful this season
Max Dowman: 7.5/10 - ridiculous, makes his debut for the mighty reds at the age of 15 to a massive roar, the protege is running the show at a time when I was struggling to tie my shoe laces at the same age. Won a penalty in the dying minutes
Mosquera: 7.5/10 - haven’t seen spindly long legs like these since we signed Viv Anderson back in the day. Bonus point for having long limbs
Myles Lewis Skelly: 8/10 - frightening depth off the bench to help clinch a clean sheet
View From The Armchair Verdict
That’s a wrap from the Emirates, on the day Eze came home, and Gyokeres grabbed a brace to get himself off the mark. Leeds were no match for Arsenal today as the rampant Gunners made it six points out of six with no goals conceded.
I look forward to seeing those grotesque caricatures online demand Arteta’s head on a spike because we didn’t score six said no true Arsenal supporter ever.
Liverpool next week, another chance to lay down a marker over a troublesome opponent, safe travels home wherever you are headed to.
