Arsenal Women came from behind to win for the second time this season with a 5-1 victory away to West Ham. Frida Maanum, Stina Blackstenius and Caitlin Foord were all on target after Daphne van Domselaar’s early own goal, before Alessia Russo’s late brace.
Player ratings:
Daphne van Domselaar 5.5/10
Fumbled Shekiera Martinez’s cross into her own net in the driving rain, the ball bursting through her hands and in off the post. Looked nervous for the remainder of the game but recovered well.
Katie McCabe 7/10
Pushed forward down the left side and kept the dangerous Shekiera Martinez quiet at the back.
Steph Catley 7.5/10
Steady after a nervous start on the ball on a slippery surface, partnering Katie Reid maturely.
Katie Reid 7.5/10
The 18-year-old kept her place at centre-back after an impressive display against London City, and helped restrict West Ham to very little after van Domselaar’s own goal.
Emily Fox 7.5/10
Dovetailed well with Beth Mead on the right and kept Viviane Asseyi quiet in a physical affair.
Kim Little 7.5/10
Impressive amongst the chaos of most of the first half, keeping possession ticking over.
Mariona Caldentey 6.5/10
An uncharacteristically sloppy start from the Spaniard, who at least was happy to try her luck from range but to no avail. Delivered the cross for Caitlin Foord to power in with her head.
Caitlin Foord 7/10
Caused problems with her pace and direct running and headed Mariona’s cross home to double Arsenal’s lead on her 100th WSL appearance.
Frida Maanum 7.5/10
Replaced Victoria Pelova in the number ten role, and took her goal well to bring Arsenal level. Substituted at half-time, and could rightly feel hard-done by.
Beth Mead 7.5/10
A trademark Mead through ball to tee up Maanum’s equaliser, her third assist in just two games. Replaced in the second half by Olivia Smith.
Alessia Russo 9/10
Two late goals to seal a fantastic night for herself and the Gunners. Dropped into the 10 after Stina Blackstenius replaced Maanum at half-time, and set up the Swede’s goal with an instinctive backheel. Held the ball up effectively for the opener too, before making her mark with a powerful finish and a well-taken penalty.
Stina Blackstenius (Sub, half-time) 7.5/10
Showed exactly why she was brought on with a composed finish just seven minutes after her introduction.
Olivia Smith (Sub, 63’) 7.5/10
Not quite the crash-bang-wallop of last weekend but the Canadian helped stretch the West Ham defence before assisting Russo and then winning a penalty.
Victoria Pelova (Sub, 79’)
Taylor Hinds (Sub, 79’)
Lotte Wubben-Moy (Sub, 88’) /10
Subs not used: Manu Zinsberger, Anneke Borbe, Laia Codina, Kyra Cooney-Cross.
