Prologue
And so it came to pass that the last day of August will host the Premier League's most-eagerly awaited fixture, with Arne Slot's reigning champions hosting Arsenal, who have been runners-up for the last three seasons.
Last season's pair of fixtures between these two heavyweights produced a brace of 2-2 draws, the latter at Anfield back in May contested after Slot's side had been crowned champions the previous month. While the former last October at the Emirates saw Liverpool grab a point with a hotly contested last equaliser.
With Arteta's side already hitting their straps this term, with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Old Trafford - although to listen to some of the critics, you'd think Ruben Amorim's side had won comfortably. Followed up with a delightful 5-0 thrashing of a desperately limited Leeds United side, on a day when Eberechie Eze was introduced to adoring Gooners. The 27-year-old former Arsenal academy youth's £67.5m signing made all the sweeter by snatching the Crystal Palace attacker from bitter north London rivals Spurs.
Liverpool, for their part have also won their opening two matches, with their 4-2 victory over Bournemouth disguising plenry of defensive issues.
As did 16-year-old's Rio Ngumoha's last gasp 100th minute winner to seal a thrilling 3-2 win over ten man Newcastle United at a febrile St James's Park on Bank Holiday Monday - for a side that is firmly now Arne Slot's - as opposed to the final roar of Jurgen Klopp's team that seemed the case for long spells of last season, during what was admitedly a serene stroll to their 20th league title.
Win, and Arsenal can most defintely lay claim to becoming favourites for the Premier League title, even at such an embryonic stage of the season. Lose, and reigning title holders Liverpool underline their continued advantage over Arteta's Gunners.
Sunday promises to be a thriller.

Alexis Mac Allister (knock) is a doubt for Slot but Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley are fit for selection.
Arsenal
New signing Eberechi Eze is set to make his Gunners debut possibly in place of Bukayo Saka who was forced off with a hamstring injury during the 5-0 rout of Leeds last weekend.
While Martin Odegaard has been selected for international duty with Norway, the Arsenal captain could still be short of fitness, after leaving the field against Daniel Farke's side with a shoulder injury - even if the injury appears far less severe than feared initially.
Kai Havertz is out, with long-term abesentee Gabriel Jesus still working his way back to full fitness.
Ben White and Christian Norgaard could return on Sunday with the latter set for his Premier Leageu debut after missing the 1-0 win at Manchester United as well as last Saturday's victory over Leeds.
