The transfer window is well and truly open and with the goals drying up for The Gunners in recent weeks, fans are crying our for a striker to bolster the Arsenal front line.

But will Mikel Arteta oblige? Or can Arsenal even afford a world class striker. Is there even one that fits the bill this month?

More realistically, the Gunners are also targeting midfield player Martin Zubimendi in a bid to bolster their squad while also boosting the starting XI.

Long-term target Zubimendi would be an excellent addition to Arteta's Arsenal this January, not least because he is having a standout season at Real Sociedad.

We went after him a year back, but with Sociedad going strong in La Liga, the midfielder opted to finish the campaign in Spain in search of Champions League qualification.

They qualified, topped their group in 2023, so it may take some convincing to tempt him away from his club of over a decade.

Zubimendi is now set to feature in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages for Real Sociedad against Paris Saint-Germain next month - and faces a difficult decision should his release clause be triggered.

The talented 25-year-old netted in the 1-1 La Liga draw with Alavés at the start of the year in what was his 19th league appearance of the campaign so far, while also featuring in both recent European Championship qualifying matches for Spain in November.

However, Arsenal are considering triggering his €60 million release clause.

“I have never planned to leave Real Sociedad, I always say that. I love life here, at home, I’m so happy here," Zubimendi said of his Basque roots.

Yet with Barcelona and Arsenal monitoring developments as the two main suitors, Zubimendi could yet learn to love life in North London. Or Catalonia.
