Arsenal boss Arteta gives injury updates on Gabriel and Calafiori ahead of North London derby
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta previews North London derby ahead of Sunday's massive game at the Emirates
Mikel Arteta has been speaking at London Colney ahead of the North London derby this weekend, including sharaing injury updates on Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori.
Arsenal have won five of the last six matches in this fixture, while the Gunners boss has never lost a home NLD as a player or manager in any competition.
On the derby Arteta said: "It's just beautiful especially when we play at home. We know what the team will bring in every single action.
"It's a game that required something else, emotionally. You cannot be too hyped. The game demands that in every ball and every action, it needs that little bit more than any other game. On Sunday we need a really good performance."
With Bayern Munich next week followed by a tough trip to Chelsea following this weekend's North London derby, Arteta added: "We've done the preparation and we know it is coming. We are ready for that and have everybody healthy, or most of them healthy. Start to generate momentum."
However, the Gunners face their bitter foes from the wrong end of the Seven Sisters Road without their talisman captain Gabriel, after the Brazil defender limped off during the Selecao's 2-0 win over Senegal, ironically at the Emirates last weekend.
When quizzed about Gabriel's injury the Gunners boss said: "Yeah Gabi unfortunately picked up an injury and he's going to be out for weeks.
"We need to have another scan next Wednesday and we will have the timeline much more clear.
"He's our leader in our back line and it's never a positive thing. People have to stand up now and do their job."
Arsenal boss Arteta also spoke about Gabriel Jesus fitness and the Brazil striker's possible return soon: "Very good," said the manager, adding: "he's done everything with the team for the last two weeks. "We're going to give him some exposure internally as well."
Arsenal boss Arteta also refused to rule out Gabriel Martinelli, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke or Martin Odegaard from playing in the North London Derby.
"We put a lot of energy during the international break with a lot of the medical staff to try to bring them as quickly as possible." Arteta said.
"Tomorrow we have another training session, to see how some of them are feeling and whether it is a bit too close to bring them to this game or if they can have a contribution in this game. Tomorrow we will have more clarity."
Arsenal boss Arteta on Saka signing a new contract: "Well I am very aware that he wants to continue with us.
"He is in the place that he wants to be.
"When that happens, when it happens, I leave that to Andrea Berta and others to figure out."
